we are extremely pleased to announce the release of ‘monument’, the debut album of architects of utter destruction. zany music already put out the single ‘and’ on january 1st without any information in advance, it was appropriately labelled as 'first song in a decade' on the bandcamp site. the album features eight songs among an album version of ‘and’ and was recorded in summer 2021 after finishing the digital reissues of sven recordings.
after numerous electronic productions and inspired by listening to the old songs piayda wanted to check his song writing skills. to record these new songs he formed architects of utter destruction with chris huff (AESTATE, penrose delta, primal scapes) on bass and jan van aachen (primal scapes) on drums. the band´s sound might be a little more rough and heavy compared to previous recordings. all members are recently working on other projects (especially the next primal scapes album), live dates or further releases are unlikely recently.
piayda announced to have some songs which might appear on a future album.

monument’ is out on zany music and distributed via bandcamp.

‘and single edit’ will vanish from bandcamp in the near future but will be added to the album as bonus track.

dealing with the on-going humanitarian disaster in ukraine, providence (rhode island, usa) based label component recordings releases a compilation featuring artists from all around the world in the genres of electronic music, experimental, ambient, industrial, techno and related styles. the call was initiated by the musicians from snowbeasts (elizabeth virosa and robert galbraith from providence, usa) and kai niggemann (cologne, germany).
they have received hundreds of submissions from over 27 countries, from all over the world, selected, grouped and assembled an album that is an intense sonic journey through many different styles of electronic music. there are nearly 200 tracks of amazing quality on this album, making this one of the longest albums ever released on bandcamp. visual artists noah g hirka designed the artwork for this album.

all proceeds from the sale of this compilation will be split evenly between the charities vostok sos and the ukrainian red cross.

the compilation exclusively contains the new record of tides track ‘a dozen roses’. the track was produced while working on a follow-up to ‘panamerican’. as the track was already removed from the new album´s tracklist we are happy to present it in this context. once again it was produced by sven piayda and mastered by michael schreiber. (primal scapes a.k.a. michael schreiber is contributing the track ‘overseas’, which is already available as live version on ‘vivid euclids | live 2021-12-03’.)

we like to encourage you to react to the on-going humanitarian disaster, purchasing the compilation is one opportunity to do so. next to contributing to this charity project, piayda is also supporting relief organizations.

a special thanks to kai niggemann for managing the contribution.

back in 2020 we were sad to announce the postponement of the sven piayda solo exhibition at essen-based kunstverein kunstwerden e.v. which was originally scheduled to be opened on sunday, november 8, 2020. the show entitled ‘needle in the multiverse’ as curated by petra steinhardt combines multiple disciplines and aesthetic impressions. in october 2020 the kunstwerden directorate decided to close their rooms in reaction to rising infection cases of the covid-19 pandemic. the show were supposed to be opened when infection numbers would go down again. as a result of the covid-19 pandemic a fixed opening date had not been announced. possible exhibition periods and opening dates had been discussed, an opening in 2021 and spring 2022 turned to be impossible due infection numbers or schedule difficulties. now kunstwerden and the studio are working on bringing up the show in september and october 2022, fixed dates are supposed to be announced soon.

2022-03-25 zany music re-releases penrose delta [redux] debut album

we are extremely pleased to announce the redux re-release of ‘space of entire retreat’, the debut and only album by penrose delta. the album was originally released on march 20, 2012 on digital kunstrasen as mp3 bundle. after digital kunstrasen closed in 2014 the album vanished from the net in 2015.
now there is a second chance for a first impression: zany music brings the album back ten years later as redux version in different digital formats. ‘space of entire retreat’ now contains a brighter cover without lettering, edits on particular songs, a new track order and a new microsite. here you can also watch the videos for ‘blossom’, 'you breath underwater’ and ‘high times’.
the re-release was originally scheduled for march 18 but it was postponed for one week in order to advertise the component recordings vostok sos/red cross ukraine charity compilation.

the band was started as a side project from AESTATE and formed by piayda and huff with support by rockenfield. there have been songs written and pre-produced for a follow-up album, but it has never been finished. some of these songs are believed to be found on ‘monument’ by architects of utter destruction. ‘space of entire retreat’ can be seen as legit follow up album to the last sven solo album ‘the senary process’ while it is obviously not part of the series.
back in 2012 piayda announced to have started the project to withdraw from the omnipresence of social media and messages. the title is inspired by georg winter´s sculpture ‘space of total retreat’ as presented at museum folkwang for ‘hacking the city’ in 2010.

penrose delta ‘space of entire retreat [redux]’

the aim of digital kunstrasen was the non commercial publishing of all kinds of arts, such as music or lyrical texts. the decision about the released depended on the quality of the single releases as well as the personal taste of the label operators [thomas kempka and meik puppe]. this label was more involved music and so up to now, there were more than 120 musical releases [among AESTATE, penrose delta and renert trio] since 2005. since july 2007, the label published a magazin that was scheduled to come out each two months as pdf file. all releases were licensed under creative commons license cc by-nc 3.0.
in 2014, both label manager decided to quit this label and offer no new releases anymore. all previous released were available until 2015. kempka and puppe announced that the internet changed and ‘creative people from all kinds of music and arts have the possibility to present them online’. when the netlabel was founded, platforms like bandcamp or soundcloud did not exist yet. due to the fact about platforms like myspace, bandcamp and other, ‘netlabel are not needed anymore’.
(see music.fandom.com/wiki/Digital_Kunstrasen)

when piayda offered the album to label head meik puppe, it took less than the album length to decide on releasing it (according to reports). when kempka and puppe decided to quite, piayda expressed his disappointment via journal, see 2014-01-27 digital kunstrasen quits releasing | entry by sven. eight years later, the blog post still appears relevant.

up to now the compilation havs received $7402 in donations. the first payments have gone to vostok vos and the ukrainian red cross for $2794 each and additional funds will be sent when they are transferred from bandcamp.
the response have been incredible with many people donating well over the $12 asking price with numerous donations of $50 and $100. there has been one generous person donating $200.
the label wants to thank the people who have been sharing and promoting the project and making this all happen.

update 2022-03-31: component recordings has raised over $8500 so far but hasen't received all the funds from bandcamp yet. about $8000 have already gone to vostok sos and the red cross ukraine. feel free to spread the word that the money is already helping! it's bandcamp friday on april 1st. this means bandcamp doesn't take their normal revenue share and about 10% more of the money raised will go to the cause (about 5% go to paypal, the rest is actual benefit money), please support. all information on the vostok sos/red cross ukraine charity compilation over at www.recordoftides.com

in context of on-going events it does not feel good to promote a release, there will be no promotion apart from this site and the bandcamp site. zany music has scheduled this release date for months. after discussing options we have decided to release as planned. also we would ask you to not misinterpret name and title within a possible political context. the project name is inspired by a combination of song titles found on the ‘1. outside’ album by david bowie. we hope this is bringing transparency in decisions.

‘panamerican’ comes as follow-up to the critics´ favourite masterpiece album ‘purchases’ and its escorting ep series. once again piayda layers synths and samples over changing beats delivering a contemporary post hip-hop variation, but things are quite different this time. fulfilling the teasers of ‘battery ep’ the new album for 2022 takes up the multiply remixed drum ‘n’ base hit ‘concrete walls of gruga’. this time it appears calm and slow while being as complex as usually. low end downbeats alternate with wurlitzer rhythms, jazzy drums as well as cold idm beats. record of tides peers into the future as usually but has one foot in the good old american days. this mix of influences, styles and sounds may sound strange and ambiguous as draft but merges perfectly in generating one of his most poppy albums. this is an elaborated late work and gateway offer as well. in all of its friendly complexness ‘panamerican’ is the parting of ways by stringing the possibilities. where can you go from here?

the ruhr gallery in mülheim an der ruhr shows their first group exhibition for 2022 called ‘(es lebe die) freiheit’ as curated by klaus wiesel. the exhibition features piayda´s cgi tableau ‘model: 1989 ford probe (car#1) after christopher williams’.
the studio announces a statement escorting the work:

in recent days and especially within the pandemic and its restrictions the term ‘freedom’ has been used by different groups using different definitions and intentions. even if the tableau has been created within the context of adaptation, the show offers a new context and possibilities for interpretation: a picture of a car turned over may remind of street riots while the protest hits the uninvolved. the original context of adaptation refers to intellectual freedom: the opportunity to use the work, result and finding of experts to hand on to tradition and culture for a growing society. apart from your preferred direction in interpretation you may get aware that the term ‘freedom’ is used by different parties believing to know its meaning and to do the right thing in the same way as contrastive interpretations can be right.

the original catalogue text states: 'model: 1989 ford probe (car#1) after christopher williams' refers to 'model: 1964 renault dauphine-four (car#1 )' by christopher williams. his renault was replaced by a ford probe, which is an autobiographical reference. since williams himself likes to use stock footage, the principle of appropriating image motifs is exaggerated here.

the show will open on sunday, february 27 at 4 pm and will be on display for about one month and close on april 3.
sven piayda is not expected to be present for the opening, further dates escorting the exhibition may be announced.

the current exhibition ‘(es lebe die) freiheit’ at ruhr gallery was originally curated without context or in an assumed context of a society discussing pandemic-based restrictions. as the war on ukraine has surprised all of us the gallery is now also expressing solidarity and the show can and must be seen with this new political context. the studio supports the show and solidarity but announced to had offered a different work within this new war context. please consider this fact while attending the show.

dealing with the on-going humanitarian disaster in ukraine, providence (rhode island, usa) based label component recordings releases a compilation featuring artists from all around the world in the genres of electronic music, experimental, ambient, industrial, techno and related styles. the call was initiated by the musicians from snowbeasts (elizabeth virosa and robert galbraith from providence, usa) and kai niggemann (cologne, germany).
they have received hundreds of submissions from over 27 countries, from all over the world, selected, grouped and assembled an album that is an intense sonic journey through many different styles of electronic music. there are nearly 200 tracks of amazing quality on this album, making this one of the longest albums ever released on bandcamp. visual artists noah g hirka designed the artwork for this album.

all proceeds from the sale of this compilation will be split evenly between the charities vostok sos and the ukrainian red cross.

‘for peace. against war. who is not?’ is a compilation by hundreds of electronic music artists from all over the world to raise money and awareness for the humanitarian disaster caused by the russian war on ukraine. we united to ty to help using what we know best: our music and art. support this compilation now by buying it on bandcamp (feel free to add as much of a donation as you can afford). 100% of the proceeds go directly to vostok sos and the red cross ukraine. enjoy the music, and please spread the word!
(press release)

the compilation exclusively contains the new record of tides track ‘a dozen roses’. the track was produced while working on a follow-up to ‘panamerican’. as the track was already removed from the new album´s tracklist we are happy to present it in this context. once again it was produced by sven piayda and mastered by michael schreiber. (primal scapes a.k.a. michael schreiber is contributing the track ‘overseas’, which is already available as live version on ‘vivid euclids | live 2021-12-03’.)

we like to encourage you to react to the on-going humanitarian disaster, purchasing the compilation is one opportunity to do so. next to contributing to this charity project, piayda is also supporting relief organizations.

a special thanks to kai niggemann for managing the contribution.

update 2022-03-16: after only about 8,5 hours we have raised over $2500 already [over $4200 after just 24 hours]. many people are paying much more than our recommended low-threshold price of $12 — one person paid $200 for the compilation. […] there is an amazing momentum that all of you are making happen through social media and your mailing lists.
— component recordings sale progression report

update 2022-03-17: the ukraine charity compilation already raised $5000 and it is still selling. the compilation also appears in bandcamp´s category rankings, it is #4 in electronic, #2 in experimental and #1 in techno and industrial.

cdm writes: as far as i know, the largest international compilation has been ‘for peace. against war. who is not? a compilation for the people of ukraine’. it feels like a landmark musical moment – at once, resisting putin’s aggression and supporting ukrainian freedom, and also reviving universal antiwar messages. none other than wolfgang flür of kraftwerk opens with a new antiwar anthem to the whole planet, “say no”. other names join, including stephen mallinder (cabaret voltaire), scanner, die angel (with ilpo väisänen of pan sonic fame), schneider tm, joasihno (cico beck of the notwist), mia zabelka, and dead voices on air. but i also see a lot of names from around the world and from more experimental corners, including friends who have been stalwart opponents of oppression elsewhere. that is to say, this is not limited to people who have just become politically active for ukraine. i contributed a track there, too, a new one that for me connects to how i feel.
thanks to organizers snowbeasts (elizabeth virosa & robert galbraith) and kai niggemann. vostok sos and ukrainian red cross are the beneficiaries, and the financial response was overwhelming even in the first few hours.

update 2022-03-19: today, saturday, march 19, the first sum of money is supposed to be donated. the last reported amount was $5600, we estimate it for today up to about $6000 to be split and donated. more info soon.

update 2022-03-21: up to now the compilation havs received $7402 in donations. the first payments have gone to vostok vos and the ukrainian red cross for $2794 each and additional funds will be sent when they are transferred from bandcamp.
the response have been incredible with many people donating well over the $12 asking price with numerous donations of $50 and $100. there has been one generous person donating $200.
the label wants to thank the people who have been sharing and promoting the project and making this all happen.

the ruhr gallery in mülheim an der ruhr shows their first group exhibition for 2022 called ‘(es lebe die) freiheit’ as curated by klaus wiesel. the exhibition features piayda´s cgi tableau ‘model: 1989 ford probe (car#1) after christopher williams’.
the studio announces a statement escorting the work:

in recent days and especially within the pandemic and its restrictions the term ‘freedom’ has been used by different groups using different definitions and intentions. even if the tableau has been created within the context of adaptation, the show offers a new context and possibilities for interpretation: a picture of a car turned over may remind of street riots while the protest hits the uninvolved. the original context of adaptation refers to intellectual freedom: the opportunity to use the work, result and finding of experts to hand on to tradition and culture for a growing society. apart from your preferred direction in interpretation you may get aware that the term ‘freedom’ is used by different parties believing to know its meaning and to do the right thing in the same way as contrastive interpretations can be right.

the original catalogue text states: 'model: 1989 ford probe (car#1) after christopher williams' refers to 'model: 1964 renault dauphine-four (car#1 )' by christopher williams. his renault was replaced by a ford probe, which is an autobiographical reference. since williams himself likes to use stock footage, the principle of appropriating image motifs is exaggerated here.

the show will open on sunday, february 27 at 4 pm and will be on display for about one month and close on april 3.
sven piayda is not expected to be present for the opening, further dates escorting the exhibition may be announced.

the current exhibition ‘(es lebe die) freiheit’ at ruhr gallery was originally curated without context or in an assumed context of a society discussing pandemic-based restrictions. as the war on ukraine has surprised all of us the gallery is now also expressing solidarity and the show can and must be seen with this new political context. the studio supports the show and solidarity but announced to had offered a different work within this new war context. please consider this fact while attending the show.

we are extremely pleased to announce the release of ‘monument’, the debut album of architects of utter destruction. zany music already put out the single ‘and’ on january 1st without any information in advance, it was appropriately labelled as 'first song in a decade' on the bandcamp site. the album features eight songs among an album version of ‘and’ and was recorded in summer 2021 after finishing the digital reissues of sven recordings.
after numerous electronic productions and inspired by listening to the old songs piayda wanted to check his song writing skills. to record these new songs he formed architects of utter destruction with chris huff (AESTATE, penrose delta, primal scapes) on bass and jan van aachen (primal scapes) on drums. the band´s sound might be a little more rough and heavy compared to previous recordings. all members are recently working on other projects (especially the next primal scapes album), live dates or further releases are unlikely recently.
piayda announced to have some songs which might appear on a future album.

in context of on-going events it does not feel good to promote a release, there will be no promotion apart from this site and the bandcamp site. zany music has scheduled this release date for months. after discussing options we have decided to release as planned. also we would ask you to not misinterpret name and title within a possible political context. the project name is inspired by a combination of song titles found on the ‘1. outside’ album by david bowie. we hope this is bringing transparency in decisions.

monument’ is out on zany music and distributed via bandcamp.

‘and single edit’ will vanish from bandcamp in the near future but will be added to the album as bonus track.

without any announcement in advance and definitely surprising zany music has released the new record of tides album ‘panamerican’ as distributed via bandcamp. the album features 14 tracks pandering between different styles and production methods in electronic music. the album was not mentioned but was already produced in november and december 2021. after collaborative releases with jan-dirk platek and primal scapes as well as numerous features ‘panamerican’ is the legit solo follow up to ‘purchases’.

‘panamerican’ comes as follow-up to the critics´ favourite masterpiece album ‘purchases’ and its escorting ep series. once again piayda layers synths and samples over changing beats delivering a contemporary post hip-hop variation, but things are quite different this time. fulfilling the teasers of ‘battery ep’ the new album for 2022 takes up the multiply remixed drum ‘n’ base hit ‘concrete walls of gruga’. this time it appears calm and slow while being as complex as usually. low end downbeats alternate with wurlitzer rhythms, jazzy drums as well as cold idm beats. record of tides peers into the future as usually but has one foot in the good old american days. this mix of influences, styles and sounds may sound strange and ambiguous as draft but merges perfectly in generating one of his most poppy albums. this is an elaborated late work and gateway offer as well. in all of its friendly complexness ‘panamerican’ is the parting of ways by stringing the possibilities. where can you go from here?

additionally sven piayda has directed a promotional video for the track 'expotential'. the fully animated black and white video is also available on boxing day, december 26, 2021. it is available as bonus item on the bandcamp delivered download version of the 'expotential / frequentism' release.

on boxing day, prettyinnoise.de premiered the video escorted with small article. (please apologise the half-correct track credits):

‘expotential’ is just melancholic in the beginning and becomes more brutal and powerful than a slayer song towards the end. it sounds unique, even after the umpteenth listen.
– jan-dirk platek

creating ‘expotential’ was quite different from what i´d usually would do. however, it is all derived from jan´s piano lines. stretching, folding and checking where it would go and there you are.
– sven piayda

‘expotential’ is ambient music for people who don‘t like ambient music. softer than a falling snowflake and heavier than a slayer song.
– press release

the track expotential has been featured in the grenzwellen radio show on january 12 as hosted by eckert stieg. more to come!

update 2022-01-29: zany music has been putting out music since 1995 in altering editions and formats among tape, compact disc and even vinyl. even after ignoring the trend of digital releases zany music also put out music available digitally only. it is still surprising how versatile and comfortable it is: grischo schlüsi sent a picture of his smart watch streaming the ‘panamerican’ album. fortunately, he has also sent his approval.

update 2022-01-31: this friday, february 4, will be the return of bandcamp friday. on bandcamp fridays, an average of 93% of your money reaches the artist/label (after payment processor fees). when you make a purchase on any other day of the month an average of 82% reaches the artist/label. so if you are considering to purchase music form record of tides or any other release from zany music, bandcamp friday is the day to go ahead. you are always making a great deal, you´ll get /CAMP access as may receive further goodies and releases.

update 2022-02-03: above you see two graphs documenting the performance of record of tides on bandcamp since joining in autumn 2020 counting the plays and not the sales. we are not delivering any numbers here. as you can see in the upper one, the attention is following waves placing the peeks around new releases. the trend appears to be downward considering the one and a half year performance. looking at the last months you can see ‘panamerican’ performing well by creating a high peek and a quick fall-off. we hope for some more long-lasting success. however, download ‘panamerican’ on bandcamp friday, february 4, and get the ‘purchases’ album (mp3 bundle) in addition as bonus item.

update 2022-02-06: we did a lot of advertising for bandcamp friday as you might have realized within the last days. if this was helpful in any way is not easy to say but we are happy that sales have happened that day, especially by customers who are not listed because of not being logged in to the bc network. however, after one and a half years on bandcamp, zany music is still not making remarkable profits. nevertheless, the (digital reissue of the) debut album (2007) by AESTATE is the commercially most successful zany music album recently.

even if we are still waiting for the announcement of the final dates of the piayda solo exhibition at kunst.werden entitled ‘needle in the multiverse’ we are happy that work is on display anyway. the ruhr gallery in mülheim an der ruhr will open their first group exhibition for 2022 called ‘(es lebe die) freiheit’ as curated by klaus wiesel. the exhibition will feature piayda´s cgi tableau ‘model: 1989 ford probe (car#1) after christopher williams’.
the studio announces a statement escorting the work:

in recent days and especially within the pandemic and its restrictions the term ‘freedom’ has been used by different groups using different definitions and intentions. even if the tableau has been created within the context of adaptation, the show offers a new context and possibilities for interpretation: a picture of a car turned over may remind of street riots while the protest hits the uninvolved. the original context of adaptation refers to intellectual freedom: the opportunity to use the work, result and finding of experts to hand on to tradition and culture for a growing society. apart from your preferred direction in interpretation you may get aware that the term ‘freedom’ is used by different parties believing to know its meaning and to do the right thing in the same way as contrastive interpretations can be right.

the original catalogue text states: 'model: 1989 ford probe (car#1) after christopher williams' refers to 'model: 1964 renault dauphine-four (car#1 )' by christopher williams. his renault was replaced by a ford probe, which is an autobiographical reference. since williams himself likes to use stock footage, the principle of appropriating image motifs is exaggerated here.

the show will open on sunday, february 27 at 4 pm and will be on display for about one month and close on april 3.

jan-dirk platek a.k.a. we deserve this and sven piayda have collaborated for an outstanding two-track release. the digital only double single jan-dirk platek x record of tides ‘expotential / frequentism’ is out today, january 14, 2022, finally available on your favorite streaming service among applemusic, spotify, amazon music, tidal, deezer and bandcamp. it has been available as pre-order via bamdcamp on boxing day, december 26, 2021. platek and piayda already collaborated for the ‘concrete walls of gruga’ remix compilation.

jan-dirkplatek.bandcamp.com

additionally sven piayda has directed a promotional video for the track 'expotential'. the fully animated black and white video is also available on boxing day, december 26, 2021. it is available as bonus item on the bandcamp delivered download version of the 'expotential / frequentism' release.

on boxing day, prettyinnoise.de premiered the video escorted with small article.
