2023-12-27 2023 synopsis: past, present and future

the last year has been a difficult one, fortunately we can look back on art shows, releases, collaborations, live performances and new productions. indeed, piayda´s productions and contributions have turned out to be way more limited in comparison to previous years. nevertheless, piayda created and presented ‘the impossibility to take pictures of the present’ for the 'zeitenwende’ at forum kunst und architektur in essen. this show was supposed to turn out as the only ‘real’ art exhibition for 2023. fortunately we are happy to announce that piayda will return to forum kunst and architektur at the beginning of 2024 to show ‘skull and fish’ for the ‘einsicht’ group show.

also sven piayda´s sound piece ‘abyss’ was featured on nik nowak´s ‘sound of the multitude’ sound sculpture as installed at the pedestrian underpass at the konrad adenauer bridge in mülheim on behalf of urbane künste ruhr. piayda´s sound work – which was originally developed on commission for the car park exhibition ‘stadt park haus’ at kulturzentrum herne in march 2021 – was played on june 10, 2023 at 11.45h. the spot was opened by the mash-up track ‘6548 prov aiida’ by AESTATE.

after leaving representing galleries piayda is now featured on superartmarkt with smaller works. the site also features works and information from fellowship artists as well as art show with participating represented artists. here we would like to thank artist karin pietzka for setting up, curating and running the project to present fellowship artists. the site features works by philipp valenta, marta colombo and beatrice richter among further artists. presented works are not only labelled with data and pricing, but also with text supplying further information on offered works. as superartmarkt is not a gallery, conditions for artists are very fair. sven piayda is represented with a single work (‘the joy of three dimensions’ (2017)) only recently, further works are supposed to be added to the portfolio of works.

in spring 2023 piayda performed the record of tides glitch hop hdj sets at HIND and rosi in gelsenkirchen. the sets looked back on long-term preparation and artful promotion. recently it is not clear if further dates will be added to this project.

zany music released two record of tides albums: ‘post internet’ as a follow-up to ‘black album’ and ‘pieces upon pieces’ as follow-up to ‘penicelina’ and expanding the post hip-hop oriented ‘purchases’ series. both albums are differing remarkably from one another but remained behind expected success. a further album of the ‘purchases’ series is supposed to come up in 2024, you can already watch the videos for ‘hyperbowl’ and ‘easy shredding through the days’. piayda´s rock band architects of utter destruction has already finished a second album which is waiting to be released in 2024. also the band is writing new material already. michael schreiber has also worked on new material for his project primal scapes alongside with piayda and further architects members. unfortunately the sessions have been quite fragmentary due circumstances, we hope for new sounds in 2024.

we are happy to finally present the new video for ‘easy shredding through the days’. the video was directed by chis huff. the track is taken from the forthcoming album ‘playground magrathea’ which is supposed to be released at some point in 2024 by zany music in multiple digital formats via bandcamp. a release date is not scheduled yet but is supposed to be announced soon.

piayda played live at jams and surprise gigs (and cancelled an announced gig in september). you may like to give these recordings another listen, documenting the elektro jam #4 in february and the elektro jam #5 in june, both recorded at lokal harmonie in duisburg featuring outstanding performers.

there have been rumors and plans, it took some months in production and distribution, but the electric café podcast is finally here: a two-hour radio program that the collective electric café ruhr has produced especially for internet radio/podcast. it presents 17 tracks of various electronic music styles featuring primal scapes and record of tides: from ambient to classic electronic music, from faster tracks to experimental experimental pieces - created by the members of electric café ruhr and some of their friends. the program also offers information about tracks and artists as well as an interview with the founders. a big thank you to jörg jankowitsch and michael schreiber!

this is the last picture of piayda performing live open air during a summer night in duisburg, taken on september 28, 2023. there haven’t been any performances or appearances afterwards. nevertheless, we hope for new songs by architects of utter destruction to be finally released and we hope for live appearances in 2024 to come. cross your fingers!

digital reissues of the AESTATE ‘greatest hits’ (2015) album as well as remix compilations ‘patch’ (2010) and ‘prov aiida ep’ (2011) returned to the net. the reissues are available via zany music and downloadable for free via zany load, they will not be distributed via bandcamp for different reasons. zany music did a makeover on the meta data written into the files and will offer them in reliable zip format. the reissues contain the original mp3 files in original release quality. additionally, the /CAMP exclusive live recording ‘performance’ is offered on the /CAMP with corrected meta data. as phil barnett and sven piayda have announced to work on a new collaborative project again, zany music has announced to do a second reissue series as the remix albums feature four common tracks by barnett and piayda. back in 2021 zany music reissued the three AESTATE albums containing bonus tracks and live excerpts.

2024 already fixed the first art show, further shows and talks are supposed to be announced. two albums are waiting to be released. Also we hope for the premiere of christopher terhart´s ‘kaivalya’ movie and the release of piayda´s soundtrack.

here is a sneak peek of forum kunst und architektur in essen preparing the upcoming show ‘einsicht’ to be opened january 14, 2024. piayda already exhibited last January at this institution, we are excited for the return and the piece to be on display. more info on this show to be announced, all info at the bottom of this post.

last saturday, september 16, primal scapes a.k.a. michael schreiber performed an electronic solo set of about half an hour. sven piayda was originally scheduled to join the set as record of tides adding electric guitar to the electronic sounds, but has cancelled the gig in advance. schreiber and piayda have announced to do the common gig at a later opportunity. nevertheless, piayda joined the audience and schreiber did a great gig on his own and reported on his website:

last saturday at the makroscope, after a 3-year break, it was time to play in front of an audience again, away from youtube live streams, and I would like to share a few thoughts and impressions with you. a live stream via the internet has its own charm, but it is only about the same as playing in front of a real audience. first of all: the makroscope in mülheim a.d.ruhr is a great location with a great team, after the renovation you can really feel comfortable there and be grateful to be there as a guest.
playing live means, in addition to all the anticipation and the ‘fun’, stress for the musician, which sets in at the latest shortly before the gig. we still have to work on the organisation of who is going to set up where, where they are going to stand and when they are going to play - the stress level is high enough for me personally, apart from these questions, with the technical check and the warm-up I am actually already busy.
it was a lot of fun to experience a colourful mix of music, and also musicians performing live for the first time with heart palpitations to a routine ‘I'll knock them out now’ approach, priceless.
as for my guest performance, I have become a bit more experienced in the meantime, expected problems and they happened - it was too quiet to cover the mechanical impact noise of the e-drum used, risked and went wrong. not everything was right there, but it wasn't all wrong either.
with a smile, I would like to say that a live performance is always a challenge that cannot be planned. for my set, I had printed out a cheat sheet in which the most important ‘thinking aids’ on the subject of patches and root notes were immortalised. the tablet for the live projection then lay over the first two and a half tracks and covered them up because the cable to the beamer was no longer - that's exactly what I mean.
to round things off, I actually wanted to record the gig myself via audio, this plan didn't work out because I sent the notebook to sleep after the gig while the recorder was still running, for all those who couldn't be there or as a sorry ‘that's how it was meant to be’, the fourth track from the live set from the last rehearsal:

this autumn we are celebrating the 24th anniversary of ‘portrait’. on september 25, 1999, zany music released sven piayda’s debut album on compact disc. the album was well appreciated and is a classic release today, also it was the first compact disc zany music put out after releasing different tapes in the years before. ‘portrait’ is based upon songs written in the years before, it was recorded in spring and summer 1999 at roberg records in gelsenkirchen by producer gerd bückins. all programming of midi and samples had been done by electronic producer thorsten ruby before. ‘portrait’ is out on zany music but still not available digitally, this album is bound to its medium and is evidence for an era. even when sven piayda appeared in very different groups and projects and styles like electronica, lo-fi jazz, avant-garde pop and metal, ‘portrait’ is still the starting point for decades of ambitioned music.

we will celebrate the anniversary with a free download of ‘the singles’: ‘the singles 1999–2009’ was released by zany music on july 23 and distributed via bandcamp. the album will be available for free on september 25, 2023. please note: the compilation will be free for fans who already own a physical sven release, please contact us for free downloads.

we are happy to finally announce the release of LPV ‘stone (live)’ as digital download and video. back in april 14, 2023 kantpark´s björn lemke and tormsn volkmann hit the makroscope stage with sven piayda to form an impromptu super group for a short moment in time. having met, jammed and swapped guitars for the second time together, björn lemke handed over his guitar to sven piayda to pick up the bass. among different attempts and constellations, this piece was filmed, recorded and released and is now available in remastered quality.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ long-awaited ‘pieces upon pieces’ album via zany music on june 16, 2023. the album was already finished in 2022 and inspired by a remarkable summer 2022, see svennet journal.
‘pieces upon pieces’ is the forth album of the ‘purchases’ series, the album is supposed to be the legit follow-up to ‘penicilina’ (2022) while using sample-based post-hiphop and idm production.
the album also features the ‘fly away song feat. prjct fear’ as it contains samples supplied by prjct fear a.k.a. dean blues. the track was also featured on ‘boneyard elements’ (2022) by prjct fear and record of tides' 'songbook' (2022), now the track is finally presented in a record of tides album context.

zany music calls it the best pieces of the ‘purchases’ series so far, as it hat put some boards-of-canada-vibes into the abstract electronica. the album will be available digitally only.

the album is promotionally escorted by a new video directed by robin moedder. moedder and piayda struck up their collaboration last winter considering common audio visual live performances. as there are no dates fixed recently, moedder started with a music video for the track ‘deep cruise’ featuring typical technical treatments leading to a perfectly fitting pictures for the abstract track. we hope for future live performances to be announced.

next to the new video we also like to bring your attention back to the video for another track from ‘pieces upon pieces’ called ‘camp finals’ as directed by christopher terhart. the music video is the first output of a collaboration which started back in summer 2022: terhart and piayda teamed up for terhart´s movie debut titled ‘kaivalya’, an experimental documentary about solitude. it is announced as a non-verbal and non-narrative piece of cinema features scenes of decay, nature and various places all over germany, focussing on broken beauty. on terhart´s request piayda has scored the movie based upon known and previously unreleased record of tides tracks from the ‘purchases’ series. these tracks have been remixed and remastered and will appear without beats as score of the movie. the soundtrack is supposed to be available via bandcamp parallel to the movie´s release.

we are also delighted to announce the release of the elektro jam #5 live bootleg as recorded at lokal harmonie in duisburg on june 17, 2023. the live jam features performances by walter eul, andreas hilburg, klaus kahmann, thomas klein, thomas machoczek, sven piayda, tangerine tom and michael wlochinski. the recording was mastereed and edited by anderas hilburg and spread among the performers. as sven was way more convinced of the peromance after listening to the files, he offered to design a cover and put it out on zany music as free live bootleg. the release is now available for free and digitally only via archive.org. apart from putting out the releases as bootlegs, curator thomas machoczek considers to deliver the full elektro jam series as official release with catalogue covers designed by piayda. so far, there is no date anticipated.

the elektro jam #5 is available via zany music and archive.org.

the elektro jam #4 is also still available via zany music and archive.org.

back on august 11 we announced primal scapes mastermind michael schreiber and sven piayda to play a live set together at makroscope in mülheim an der ruhr on september 16, 2023. the live set was supposed to include known and unreleased tunes from both artists while transforming it into real live version via real-time controllers and electric guitar in order to create a mash-up set. both artist have already performed live together for ‘vivid euclids’ which is still available as official zany music release and live stream recording on youtube.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ long-awaited ‘pieces upon pieces’ album via zany music on june 16, 2023. the album was already finished in 2022 and inspired by a remarkable summer 2022, see svennet journal.
‘pieces upon pieces’ is the forth album of the ‘purchases’ series, the album is supposed to be the legit follow-up to ‘penicilina’ (2022) while using sample-based post-hiphop and idm production.
the album also features the ‘fly away song feat. prjct fear’ as it contains samples supplied by prjct fear a.k.a. dean blues. the track was also featured on ‘boneyard elements’ (2022) by prjct fear and record of tides' 'songbook' (2022), now the track is finally presented in a record of tides album context.

zany music calls it the best pieces of the ‘purchases’ series so far, as it hat put some boards-of-canada-vibes into the abstract electronica. the album will be available digitally only.

the album is promotionally escorted by a new video directed by robin moedder. moedder and piayda struck up their collaboration last winter considering common audio visual live performances. as there are no dates fixed recently, moedder started with a music video for the track ‘deep cruise’ featuring typical technical treatments leading to a perfectly fitting pictures for the abstract track. we hope for future live performances to be announced.

robin-moedder.jimdofree.com

next to the new video we also like to bring your attention back to the video for another track from ‘pieces upon pieces’ called ‘camp finals’ as directed by christopher terhart. the music video is the first output of a collaboration which started back in summer 2022: terhart and piayda teamed up for terhart´s movie debut titled ‘kaivalya’, an experimental documentary about solitude. it is announced as a non-verbal and non-narrative piece of cinema features scenes of decay, nature and various places all over germany, focussing on broken beauty. on terhart´s request piayda has scored the movie based upon known and previously unreleased record of tides tracks from the ‘purchases’ series. these tracks have been remixed and remastered and will appear without beats as score of the movie. the soundtrack is supposed to be available via bandcamp parallel to the movie´s release.

we are also delighted to announce the release of the elektro jam #5 live bootleg as recorded at lokal harmonie in duisburg on june 17, 2023. the live jam features performances by walter eul, andreas hilburg, klaus kahmann, thomas klein, thomas machoczek, sven piayda, tangerine tom and michael wlochinski. the recording was mastereed and edited by anderas hilburg and spread among the performers. as sven was way more convinced of the peromance after listening to the files, he offered to design a cover and put it out on zany music as free live bootleg. the release is now available for free and digitally only via archive.org. apart from putting out the releases as bootlegs, curator thomas machoczek considers to deliver the full elektro jam series as official release with catalogue covers designed by piayda. so far, there is no date anticipated.

the elektro jam #5 is available via zany music and archive.org.

the elektro jam #4 is also still available via zany music and archive.org.

in his latest journal entry (2023-07-19 how to slow down the spinning wheel in your head | entry by sven) piayda already reported about playing at electro jam #5 and the bootleg: by the way, I played on elektro jam #5 (the ej#4 bootleg is already available) and I did not feel good that night as I was managing a credit card fraud I had to tackle. so I was not really in it, I could not enjoy it and did not really like what we did. I was surprised when klaus kahmann sent the line-out recording by andreas hilburg who also did some mastering. the recording sounds like a mixture of david bowie´s ‘1.outside’ and a contemporary autechre live gig to me. I remembered everything as non-fitting and forced but the recording sounds great. I hope it will be there by the end of the summer…

some days ago we announced that the studio has started working on pieces featuring donatello´s 'david'. still the work is not done, we started to render frames of the sculpture shot in bluescreen. still a lot work to do, we hope for the piece to be finished in 2024. cross your fingers!

we are happy to announce the digital reissues of the AESTATE ‘greatest hits’ (2015) album as well as remix compilations ‘patch’ (2010) and ‘prov aiida ep’ (2011). the reissues are available via zany music and downloadable for free via zany load, they will not be distributed via bandcamp for different reasons. zany music did a makeover on the meta data written into the files and will offer them in reliable zip format. the reissues contain the original mp3 files in original release quality. additionally, the /CAMP exclusive live recording ‘performance’ is offered on the /CAMP with corrected meta data. as phil barnett and sven piayda have announced to work on a new collaborative project again, zany music has announced to do a second reissue series as the remix albums feature four common tracks by barnett and piayda.
back in 2021 zany music reissued the three AESTATE albums containing bonus tracks and live excerpts.

as there are no live dates to announce for architects of utter destruction and record of tides (all festival participations have been turned down) we are happy to announce that sven piayda is scheduled to play live at elektro jam #5 at lokal harmonie in duisburg. back in february, piayda debuted at ej#4 for a great and abstract set, you can still download two hour set via zany load over at
zany-music.com
.

live section

on the day of release of record of tides ‘post internet’ album, february 24, sven piayda assembled at the electro jam #4 to play a two hour set featuring musicians as dean blues, walter eul, andreas hilburg, klaus kahmann, thomas machoczek and ioannis zedamanis. the live performance was streamed live on facebook. on march 24, on the day of the glitch hop hdj set at HIND and the AESTATE reissues #2 release day, zany music put out a live bootleg of the live performance distributed via archive.org.

the elektro jam #4 is available via zany music and archive.org.

we are delighted to announce that sven piayda´s sound piece ‘abyss’ was featured on nik nowak´s ‘sound of the multitude’ sound sculpture as installed at the pedestrian underpass at the konrad adenauer bridge in mülheim on behalf of urbane künste ruhr. piayda´s sound work – which was originally developed on commission for the car park exhibition ‘stadt park haus’ at kulturzentrum herne in march 2021 – was played on june 10, 2023 at 11.45h. the spot was opened by the mash-up track ‘6548 prov aiida’ by AESTATE. we would like to have announced the sound exhibition/performance but the has been no information on time schedules in advance.

the pedestrian underpass at the konrad adenauer bridge in mülheim is not an inviting place, despite a view of the river slowly streaming past. rather, the concrete pillars, graffiti, and low passageway give rise to an urban ‘non-place’ where walkers strolling along the idyllic path next to the ruhr river suddenly find themselves confronted with traces of an efficient metropolitan traffic system. it is precisely here that nik nowak has transformed an overseas shipping container into a seemingly monolithic, movable sound sculpture of industrial dimensions. as a participatory installation, it creates a site for discourse and for musical, acoustic intervention. the daily programme also contains suggestions and compositions uploaded on the associated website and uses the multitude as an amplifier and instrument whose extraordinary sound experience affects the whole body.

this project is both an appeal to society and a megaphone amplifying different voices and sounds in this context, a society shaped by migration routes over multiple generations and by phases of industrial and post-industrial development. taking as a point of departure the question of who we are as a society, the berlin-based artist nik nowak (b. 1981 in mainz) confronts virtuality with materiality, while thematising the relationship between private life and the public sphere in the digital age. his multimedia work is focused on the affective dimensions and potentials of sound and space that redefine the formal boundaries between installation and sculpture. for nowak, sound is both a source of identity and an element influencing society. here, he is particularly interested in the implementation of mobile sound systems as cultural transmitters and as a global and trans-temporal phenomena, and in contrast, their use as acoustic weapons in warfare.

the project the sound of the multitude is supported by the karin und uwe hollweg stiftung.

the new architects of utter destruction album is still in the making. the recording have been done on april 27, may 10 and 11 and june 1. Further overdubs or further recordings are not scheduled, some guitar racks have even been erased again after recording. however, something is happening, nothing´s scheduled, just keep an eye on the site:

2023-06-05 shaved space monkey 20th anniversary & download

today we celebrate 20 years of shaved space monkey. on this day in 2003, zany music released ‘the return of’, the projects follow-up album to the debut ‘ready to go’. according to the anecdotes, sven started the project in winter 2002/2003 after a bad cold and medication, sampling from classical music and italo pop compact discs found in his girlfriend´s home, back in the day. the tracks were handed out on tape and cd to family and friends but were never commercially available from zany music.

as the project is based upon recognizable samples, piayda turned to his new project record of tides based upon self-recorded samples ending up in the projects debut ‘timber’ in 2004.
in spring 2020 piayda transferred the compact discs into high quality mp3 bundle versions. these versions are usually only available on request. as we are recently celebrating the 20th anniversary, zany music, both albums are now available for free download, for one week only, june 3 to 10.

the download additionally features
record of tides' recent album 'post internet'.

get the free download for limited time only over at zany-music.com (check the features on top of the site)

above you see the first tape featuring the iconic logo on pink background, the tape only featured the first nine tracks from ‘ready to go’, additional tracks have been produced later for the cd version. back in march 2020 sven wrote:
in this strange time a strange idea came to my mind. I was checking the studio for an old plastic bag with tape cassettes I had recovered from my old car years ago. among was also a tape of shaved space monkey, my 2002/2003 pre-record-of-tides-project. as it was just sampled from italo pop beats and classical music hooks I did not want to release it for copyright reasons. recently I am considering a release via /CAMP as the music is as well as cheesy as touching. also I guess you will only get sued if there is money to get from the copyright violator. however, this is a concept that blank banshee is quite successful with, I´m sure he did not ask for all the recognizable samples he uses. unfortunately the production files are not complete anymore and there is not harddisk copy of the first album, I might sample it from the tape or from a compact disc done at the time. let´s see what is going to work out. nevertheless, there are tons of music to be put out. i´m holding back a lot as I do not want to flood the net, but I promise to work on managing the releases.

on may 4 we reported about sickness going round in the band (and triggering some worries among fans), it appears quite unlikely that the group went through a second wave of infects. however, as it was scheduled to finish recordings in may, this plan has been dismissed already. we hope for everyone to be well soon again. we are looking forward for upcoming live dates. the new album waits for two final songs (and little overdubs) to be recorded. zany music has not announced a release date yet.

on june 1st AOUD attended the studio to record the final two songs for their second album. the group only spent four days of recording, song writing and programming had been done in advance. there are even ideas for new songs but these tunes are supposed to be recorded with an altered line-up (no splitting up!) and by using different production methods. we hope for good luck while mixing and mastering. a release date is not likely for 2023. however, check out the summer live dates!

we are happy to announce the release of record of tides´ long-awaited ‘post internet’ album via zany music on february 24, 2023. the album was already finished in 2020 and originally supposed to be released by kreislauf.organistation which unfortunately missed to finish the process (and whose site has recently vanished from the internet). ‘post internet’ does not belong to the ‘purchases’ series, the album is supposed to be the legit follow-up to ‘black album’ (2020) while it uses the idm context for mixing up rock music with conceptional and arty electronica. it features midi programming, sample processing, browser-based production tools, guitars, accordion, calimba, euclidian generated beats, human and robot voices.
post-internet is a loosely-defined term for a 21st-century art movement involving works that are derived from the internet or its effects on aesthetics, culture and society. according to the title´s connection to the world wide web, the album is available digitally only.

as the album was ready for release about two and a half years ago, some tracks are already known: ‘becausetheinternet’ already appears in a newly mastered version on ‘songbook’, the track ‘random darknet shopper’ already debuted live during the gig at consol gelsenkirchen in 2021. the track ‘no sign’ feat. primal scapes was the first collaborative track using euclidan-generated beats which led to the psxrot euclids series.

'post internet' on bandcamp

the album is promotionally escorted by two videos directed by matthias danberg:
the track ‘random darknet shopper’ features a first person perspective museum walkthrough exploring different sculptures by matthias danberg using computer game aesthetics. danberg originally produced an environment for a game engine which was actually explorable via internet browser. while the necessary software is no longer functioning, only the recorded walkthrough remains. as the video illustrates a track called ‘random darknet shopper’, piayda came up with the idea to add night vision to the video. (the cover artwork for the digital single is also based upon a still from the video.)
on february 3rd zany music released the video for ‘be sure to wear flowers in your hair’ which uses altered scenes from the first person perspective museum walkthrough in black and white aesthetics. the track is based upon a heavily processed sample from a well-known seventies song which was originally produced as sound piece for sven piayda´s portfolio, where it is also to be found. danberg and piayda have already collaborated for the record of tides´ music videos ‘vogh beats2’ and ‘horns of paradise’ from ‘black album’. their forth video is supposed to be the closure of the video series.

we are thankful and happy to pass on the latest review on 'post internet' by thierry massard on nocovision. check it out in the reviews section or over at nocovision. a big thanks to thierry, who has an ear on sven piayda´s work for the last five years!
we hope for more to come!

2023-05-05 new record of tides video directed by christopher terhart
it is our massive pleasure to announce new music by record of tides. ‘camp finals’ delivers the first sounds of the upcoming new album ‘pieces upon pieces’ which will be out on zany music on june 16. the album will be the fourth album of record of tides´ ‘purchases’ series.

the new track features a beautiful video directed by christopher terhart.

‘camp finals’ on youtube

recordoftides.com

the new music video is the first output of a collaboration which started back in summer 2022: terhart and piayda for terhart´s movie debut titled ‘kaivalya’, an experimental documentary about solitude. it is announced as a non-verbal and non-narrative piece of cinema features scenes of decay, nature and various places all over germany, focussing on broken beauty. on terhart´s request piayda has scored the movie based upon known and previously unreleased record of tides tracks from the ‘purchases’ series. these tracks have been remixed and remastered and will appear without beats as score of the movie. the soundtrack is supposed to be available via bandcamp parallel to the movie´s release.

the release of the full movie is scheduled for 2023 without any fix date so far as it is still in post production. you can already watch the trailer over here: vimeo.com/759265114

all info on christopher terhart and the project over at christerhart.net

terhart and piayda have already collaborated on ‘penicilina’ by record of tides. the track ‘vorwegnahme’ was originally produced by terhart a.k.a. monkelmann, piayda turned the track into a longer and more complex version also featuring an acoustic guitar solo. the spoken work part written by monkelmann adapts a found text based upon conspiracy theories. by reinterpreting and translating it into german language it is turned it into a positive prophecy. christopher terhart is also known as visual artist mostly known for great infrared photography.

back in september 2020 sven reported in the blog about writing songs on a blue cheapo start copy. the riff he was working on was modified again and again and lead to a programming which was also corrected over and over again. it took years to find the right chord progression and the right arrangement. however, on april 27, 2023 architects of utter destruction hit the studio to finally record the piece called ‘sequoia’. it was already scheduled to be on the debut album ‘monument’ but it did not turn out as ready to be recorded. the blue start was not used in studio, the guitar parts have been recorded with the white strat called ‘daisy’. also another song called ‘very first time’ has been recorded, van aachen, huff and piayda are recently in studio to record new songs.

on the day of release of record of tides ‘post internet’ album, february 24, sven piayda assembled at the electro jam #4 to play a two hour set featuring musicians as dean blues, walter eul, andreas hilburg, klaus kahmann, thomas machoczek and ioannis zedamanis. the live performance was streamed live on facebook. on march 24, on the day of the glitch hop hdj set at HIND and the AESTATE reissues #2 release day, zany music put out a live bootleg of the live performance distributed via archive.org.

the elektro jam #4 is available via zany music and archive.org.

we are happy to announce the release of record of tides´ long-awaited ‘post internet’ album via zany music on february 24, 2023. the album was already finished in 2020 and originally supposed to be released by kreislauf.organistation which unfortunately missed to finish the process (and whose site has recently vanished from the internet).

2023-04-24 win a string competition / glitch hop aftermath
svennet brings back a classic competition from 2006: win a string! now you can win once again some worn strings from sven´s legendary signature guitar prototype guitar nicknamed susie. as sven piayda is teaming up with architects of utter destruction again to work on new music and all the equipment is set-up for great performance you can get the old strings.
if you want to win, please drop a line and tell us why you need to get it. winners will receive the current album ‘monument’ as mp3 version on top! good luck!

here is a snapshot of sven piayda performing live with susie in 2022. this guitar is usually the secret weapon in studio but does not show up live very often.

last thursday piayda performed the second and last record of tides glitch hop hdj set at rosi gelsenkirchen. above you can see snapshot from the night, the record of tides site features some more pictures. we would like to thank everyone at rosi gelsenkirchen and hier ist nicht da for making the events possible. recently there are no further live or hdj sets on schedule.

2023-03-01 representation, portfolio update and elektro jam aftermath
as you might have realized by changes on this site sven piayda is now without any kind of gallery representation, also a future representation is explicitly excluded. certain works may still be offered by certain galleries, current pieces are only available directly from the studio.

also we are delighted to announce that sven piayda and elected works are now featured on superartmarkt.de, a website project set up by artist karin pietzka to present fellowship artists. the site features works by philipp valenta, marta colombo and beatrice richter among further artists. presented works are not only labelled with data and pricing, but also with text supplying further information on offered works. as superartmarkt is not a gallery, conditions for artists are very fair. sven piayda is represented with a single work (‘the joy of three dimensions’ (2017)) only recently, further works are supposed to be added to the portfolio of works.

superartmarkt.de

the studio has finally done the first update for 2023 by adding new works to the photography and video portfolio. the update features a special work: in 2022 sven piayda struck up a collaboration with english interdisciplinary artist and producer phil barnett. back in 2008 barnett produced nature inspired and adaptive electronica as squinancywort, so he and AESTATE started swapping remixes which have been released on ‘patch’ and ‘prov aiida ep’, which will be reissued digitally on zany music on march 24. now barnett and piayda have completed a visual collaboration merging nature and technology. ‘sunrise intervals’ is a meditative 1.20 min loop exploring the colourful changes of the morning sky while transforming into an abstract composition – and back.

we are happy to announce the release of record of tides´ long-awaited ‘post internet’ album via zany music on february 24, 2023. the album was already finished in 2020 and originally supposed to be released by kreislauf.organistation which unfortunately missed to finish the process (and whose site has recently vanished from the internet).

(the cover artwork for the digital single is also based upon a still from the video.)
on february 3rd zany music released the video for ‘be sure to wear flowers in your hair’ which uses altered scenes from the first person perspective museum walkthrough in black and white aesthetics. the track is based upon a heavily processed sample from a well-known seventies song which was originally produced as sound piece for sven piayda´s portfolio, where it is also to be found. danberg and piayda have already collaborated for the record of tides´ music videos ‘vogh beats2’ and ‘horns of paradise’ from ‘black album’. their forth video is supposed to be the closure of the video series.

on the day of release of record of tides ‘post internet’ album, sven piayda assembled at the electro jam #4 to play a two hour set featuring musicians as dean blues, walter eul, andreas hilburg, klaus kahmann, thomas machoczek and ioannis zedamanis. the live performance was streamed live on facebook, the recording of the performance is still available. the pictures above are taken by dean blues, who played his first live show in three years. some more pictures can be found over in the journal. we hope that there will be a recording available, cross your fingers!

we are happy to pass on the announcements of upcoming record of tides glitch hop hdj sets at hier ist nicht da and rosi in gelsenkirchen. the sets will take place on march 24 at hind and april 20 at rosi.
nadine heckner of rosi announces: a long cherished dream comes true. sven piayda will perform a dj set at my place. he had to wait a long time for an appointment, but now i am even more happy that I can present you his glitch hop hdj set. save this date, even if it is still a long time from now.

record of tides is the electronica project of media artist sven piayda. ambient, idm, post hip-hop and post rock are woven into an independent and sophisticated sound, and the sounds are accompanied live by specially produced visuals. record of tides celebrates electronic music beyond techno and soundscape. the unique sound oscillates between composition and deconstruction, from nostalgia to futurism, and explores the possibilities of the genre. piayda looks back on releases and gigs over the last two decades and remains independent and groundbreaking with its varied sound.

for 2023, piayda has come up with something special in addition to audiovisual live sets: for the glitch hop hdj sets, he plays glitch hop, post hip-hop, electronica, idm, vaporwave, downbeat, wonky, remixes, mash-ups, rare & unreleased. in the consistently conceptual sets, the closely related genres of hip-hop and electronica are woven into one another despite their differing popularity.

sven piayda has been working on the concept for months now. check out the posters for record of tides hdj sets, they are announcing the upcoming hdj sets now and will become collectibles later.

have a look at the video for ‘be sure to wear flowers in your hair’ by matthias danberg. as piayda already announced on the journal video directors christopher terhart, robin moedder and chris huff are recently working on music videos for two (!) upcoming albums from the ‘purchases’ series. we hope for the sound and vision to be released in 2023. additionally there are ideas to use the extraneous video material within live visuals or even perform with a visual artist live. the studio takes care on production and will announce when there is something to see.

oscillators, filters, envelope generators, low pass gates, distortion, loopers, ring modulators, frequency shifters, noise generators, mixers, amplifiers, granulators, echo and reverb – they are all welcome here – and their many other electronic friends too. together we will set out on a journey of sound, following our desire for creative exchange and the fun of experimentation. anything goes – stylistically completely open.
parallel to the album release the lokal harmonie in duisburg has scheduled the ‘elektro jam #4’. here electronic musicians are announced and invited to jam and improvise the night´s performance. on organisator thomas machoczek´s invitation sven piayda will join the jam by pluging in the guitar and modulation device. doors open at 7.30 pm the jam is supposed to start at 8 pm.

danberg and piayda have already collaborated for the record of tides´ music videos ‘vogh beats2’ and ‘horns of paradise’.
their third video is supposed to be the closure of the video series.
the cover artwork for the digital single is also based upon a still from the video.
