following the tradition, we´d like to look back on 2017. this year we can look back on different art shows a few releases. even if the second half of this year was coined by piayda´s absence because of an accident, the studio kept on going and so we can look back on shows in museums, galleries, off-spaces and public space featuring photography, video, sound and CGI works. even worth mentioning is the wide range of size, from a 5x5 cm malevich adaptation in hamburg to a three-metre-wide billboard version of a tableau in dresden.

within this year, especially in the first half, the studio focussed on networking and taking the work to a new commercial level. the primary aim of gaining gallery representation has gone lost on the way and is no longer on schedule. therefore the studio keeps in touch with different galleries and selling institutions, also it focuses now on further ways of generating profit like screening/playing fees, tax lowering donations and direct sales into collections.

based upon piayda´s mandatory break he created and released a lot of music with his solo project record of tides. a new album has been produced during summer and is supposed to be released in the middle of 2018.


this year, especially the first half, was coined by piayda´s participation in the large ‘let´s by it’ show at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen. the show had been on display for about four months and gained great feedback. It was escorted with a great opening, a catalogue, a blog interview and artist talk. sven piayda contributed two video works as a work dealing with money had been requested back in spring 2016 and was produced as available edition of three in a long struggling process. the studio would like to announce that working with the ludwiggalerie was professional and lovely, as everyone in the team did a great job making it a good time.




this year also featured quite may catalogue releases, you will find escorting print work on the LTK4 exhibition, in the dresden based billboard show as well as to the ‘let´s by it’ show.


after looking back here is some future. above you see an uninstalled view on ‘mediaeval landscapes’. the piece has been on display one tome only so far but is supposed to be back on display again in an upcoming solo show. more info soon.


as there is a solo show coming up we are happy to present this sneak peek of a sketch as taken in studio: this is a first draft of the catalogue to escort the show, still we are not sure if it will be in production. (without spreading spoilers, we are busy recently...)




as already mentioned, record of tides has released a lot of differing music in pretty differing formats this year: the physical only ‘swan ep’ on compact disc with beautiful transparent cover artwork, the full album ‘solna’ on kreislauf.org as free download and also the compilation album ‘driftings’ on zany music as /CAMP exclusive release. piayda has announced planning different releases on different formats.


following the idea of putting out different formats zany music announced to come up with a record of tides vinyl ep in spring. more info soon, above you see something like a dummy version. also there are no dates for dj-sets or live, but the project is supposed to come up live in 2018.

now, as christmas is getting closer zany music has a little gift for you. from now on the debut album from AESTATE can be downloaded for free from zany music. the digital version also contains the digital only bonus track 'plad_4040'.
the album was released about ten years ago on april 4, 2007 as compact disc and digital download and defined a deconstructed but also poppy sound. it featured tracks like 'peel aest' and 'bechcaes' which still sound fresch after a decade. you can find the full track listing and all info over here.

here is a pic of AESTATE performing live at FFT düsseldorf in spring 2007. the group did not play live since 2014 and did their last dj set in 2015. chris huff and sven piada did not split up but are recently focussing on other projects. piayda is working on new music with his project record of tides while huff has become head of the sven piayda studio.

sven piayda´s 'stars and stripes point never' is part of a group show dealing with trump and his impact on american and international politics as presented in small formats. the group show deals with works of all disciplines and will be opened on december 20 in the bunker k101 in cologne.
the date of the opening corresponds with donald trump´s election last year, upcoming presentations are also supposed to be dated to political milestones in trump´s career.

the bunker k101 is a very special place giving space for remembrance as well as politically oriented art. the show is curated by clementine klein and features about 142 unique works of art. the show is supposed to travel around germany to be presented in different places.

there have been rumours and innuendos concerning vinyl releases around. paralell to the studio´s dismissed plan to create sculptures, there have also been plans to create sound works on vinyl. recently none of these plans have been put into action but may be one day.

gallery and studio have been in touch for quite a while, the upcoming show was scheduled even back in march, unfortunately the participation was confirmed only some days ago, the news announcement was supposed to come eralier.

even if the year is not over yet there are no shows left for this year and the studio is looking back and finding consequences for next year. as you may know, the studio was looking for ways to commercialize works and has been looking for partners and also specialists for the studio. the crunch time process did not generate partners in working on developing common strategies and profit but generated knowledge what not to do and what better to do.
after talking, planning and collaborating the studio has decided to not hire a 3d-printing operator as sculptures will not be part of the portfolio. there have been common ideas to produce already sketched objects, but these projects will not be taken up, as they will probably not be on sale anyway.

the museum mülheim will not come up with an annual show featuring local and city related artists because of renovation issues. above you see piayda next to his works as shown in the show at the beginning of the year. the studio is recently closed and will be restructured. we are not offering or jobs or internships, also the studio will no longer work with galleries. please contact chris huff concerning all management issues.

the studio will reopen in 2018 to focus on developing work, international group shows, studio to collection sales and educational projects.


rochus aust, curator for LTK4, had chosen sven piayda´s sound piece 'la mer' for the show on audio based arts called LTK4 in the lutherturm in cologne. above you see the work in as perfectly installed in the lutherturm in cologne. you can find more pictures in the exhibitions section. the work will hopefully be on display in a new place again. more soon.


'jackson pollock visiting' at galerie an der ruhr / ruhr gallery is already closed. you can still purchase the exclusive work by sven piayda as titled 'pollock polyptych (random alignment)' from the studio. the work has been available from the gallery but has now returned to the studio. further collaborations with the gallery may come up but are not on schedule.

rochus aust, curator for LTK4, has chosen sven piayda´s sound piece 'la mer' for the show on audio based arts called LTK4 in the lutherturm in cologne. the exhibition was opened on october 6 and features known fellowship artists like claudia robles-angel and peter eisold. above you hear the work in as perfectly installed in the lutherturm in cologne. you see the cover as projected throughthe round hole in the ceiling. you can find more pictures in the exhibitions section.

the sound piece is based upon charles trenet´s chanson, but has eliminated structure by shorting and stretching the audio material to make only sound remain. the complete works now has a running time of 56 minutes and 41 seconds and is also working as loop. for the upcoming show the piece is supposed to be played in a set list with other works.

the heidelberg based gallery boeckercontemporary has started a project called 'black box(es)', which is now exhibited at faux mouvement centre d'art contemporain in metz, france. the show features 251 cards from 22 countries from 5 continents. the black box show will be part of the art festival ' constellations de metz'. the cards in the display case will be changed every two weeks so all cards can be seen. by using a QR code visitors connected to facebook can find the works online with links to all participating artists. up to now more than 40.000 people have seen the black box cards on facebook.

the exhibition will tour from künstlerhaus saar in saarbrücken, germany, to the la 's' grand atelier in vielsalm, belgium, the faux mouvement (centre d'art contemporain), metz, france and the casino luxembourg (forum d'art contemporain) in luxemburg. the exhibitions will take place from june 2017 to end of 2019.

pictured above you see sven piayda´s contribution: the classic 'shedhead' has become an icon and was already spread over the ruhr area via postcards in 2012. now it is to return as single copy picture postcard to tour through benelux.

yesterday the LTK4 exhibition on sound based arts was opened at the lutherturm in cologne. the exhibition also features works by known fellowship artists like claudia robles-angel and peter eisold. rochus aust, curator for LTK4, has chosen sven piayda´s sound piece 'la mer' for the show and turned it in the perfect experience.


‘la mer’ is placed in the highest accessible chamber of the lutherturm. while it is droning from the walls you can lay down in one of three hammocks and watch the edition´s cover as projected through the ceiling’s round hole. the edition´s cover is a simple composition of two grey spaces as representing the most common idea of a visualization of sky and sea.
‘la mer’ is based upon charles trenet´s chanson, but has eliminated structure by shorting and stretching the audio material to make only sound remain. the complete works now has a running time of 56 minutes and 41 seconds and is also working as loop. within the show the piece is played in a looped set list among other shorter works.


curator rochus aust has found the perfect place and way of installation for this piece taking it to the next level, the hammocks actually make you stay long enough to experience the slow changes within the sound piece while the projection offers a visual orientation in the dark chamber. visitors reported to enjoy the calming and meditative atmosphere in a cathedralesque even reminding of the pantheon.

the exhibition is open from wednesdays to saturdays, 4 to 8 pm and escorted by numerous concerts. curator rochus aust will guide you through the show on november 4 as it will be part of the museumsnacht köln (please note that you will need a ticket for this date). more installation views can be found in the exhibitions section.

this picture actually belongs more into the throwback section of the journal, but as it is recently not updated, we thought it could be a good idea to bring it up here. in sptember 2002 sven piayda exhibited his widerly discussed 'cadaver' series at sichtwerk03 on zollverein in essen. above you see sven standing next to his works, which had been produced as a student but are still part of teh portfolio.
so we look back on this event 15 years ago and a constant movement of creating works and exhibiting them. you can see more pictures of the show in the 2002 exhinitions section.

'a sudden gust of wind' was produced on request by the studio for the 'let´s buy it / kunst und einkauf' show at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen. as the piece gained great feedback and is requested, it
it was supposed to produced and offered as edition. unfortunately, the process of production apperad to be a never ending story, as it was difficult to produce it in acceptable quality. also, there was a lot of bad luck which delayed the whole process.

the studio started to work on the piece back in spring 2016, it was on display in winter/spring 2017 and was in line to become an edition since spring. usually, this would not be woth a news post, but this time we have been facing an enourmous long way of becoming with institutions waiting for it.

the video piece will be available in in october in an edition of 3 (+AP) from the studio only. please contact the studio for price and conditions. the work is already requested and will not be offered via gallery, please contact the studio for purchase conditions.

here you see some sketches for the cover: the pronts are based upon high resolution pictures generated parallelly to the video production, which are actually also used within the video. the design was already done in may and resting on an usb stick waiting to be printed.




the finaly edition of three with the beautiful transparent cover artwork. this is how video editions usually look: transparent artwork holding a titled, numbered, dated and signed dvd disc. more editions are supposed to come up.

the kunstverein alte feuerwache loschwitz in dresden has chosen sven piayda´s 2016 piece 'golden summer'. the work had been shown among 35 works by further artists as billboard-sized posters within the city of dresden. we have already posted many processed installation views, above you finally see an actual photo of the billboard with 'golden summer' as deliverd by curator lucie von freyenhagen via intagram.

we have collected all available and processed material for you over in the exhibitions section.


there have been innoendos and rumours concerning a new product and after a long time of bringing it up here it is: we are proud to present 'heimaterder wabenglück'. the studio is involved by contributing the design to this special product as well as supporting this project in many other ways. even if it is avaliable for money, it is not generating profit. the idea is to contribute local honey by local beekeepers and rise the number of insects and pruinosed plants again.

zany music has finally launched the new site, flash free and full of great content to download featuring zany load, download links, download on demand and the full zany music catalogue.
the download links for the AESTATE albums do not work recently, they will be available for free on zany load in 2018. this means all AESTATE albums will be freely available. recently, you can already download 'patch', 'prov aiida ep' and 'greatest hits'.

the heidelberg based gallery boeckercontemporary has started a project called 'black box(es)', which is now exhibited at faux mouvement centre d'art contemporain in metz, france. the show features 251 cards from 22 countries from 5 continents. the black box show will be part of the art festival ' constellations de metz'. the cards in the display case will be changed every two weeks so all cards can be seen. by using a QR code visitors connected to facebook can find the works online with links to all participating artists. up to now more than 40.000 people have seen the black box cards on facebook.

the exhibition will tour from künstlerhaus saar in saarbrücken, germany, to the la 's' grand atelier in vielsalm, belgium, the faux mouvement (centre d'art contemporain), metz, france and the casino luxembourg (forum d'art contemporain) in luxemburg. the exhibitions will take place from june 2017 to end of 2019.

pictured above you see sven piayda´s contribution: the classic 'shedhead' has become an icon and was already spread over the ruhr area via postcards in 2012. now it is to return as single copy picture postcard to tour through benelux.

back in july zany music already announced to offer all AESTATE albums for free in 2018. now the label confirmes two further record of tides releases: 'driftings' is scheduled for autumn and will be a compilation of tracks from 2005 to 2017 featuring rare tracks, alternative versions and tracks from current sessions. the release will be followed by 'modern world', a remastered version of a recording done in 1998. the release will feature one ambience track only.
above you see piayda performing in 2005, new record of tides live dates will hopefully be scheduled for 2018.

'golden summer' is a pretty classic piayda tableau based upon a rediscovered photograph of a dutch landscape taken some years before.


update 2017-08-02: the kunstverein alte feuerwache loschwitz has launched a google map helping you to find all places with billboards showing works. you can access the map by clicking the image above. sven piayda´s 'golden summer' can be found in the foersterlingstr. 19 in dersden. please take and send a picture if you go there!

the studio has discussed plans to put new content to the /CAMP within the next months. once again the /CAMP is supposed to deliver exclusive content as well as behind the scenes material like complex concepts for shows that have not been taken up. the are plans to put out an exclusive record of tides release as well as the concept 'adaptation (you´re mine)' and the experimental short film 'adaptation'. as the /CAMP offers five slots only, current content is supposed to vanish, so please make sure to have stored everything you do not want to miss!

note for members of the /CAMP: as adobe has announced to quit flash and as we have recieved complaints in the past that you cannot log in to the /CAMP with certain browsers and mobile devices we have kicked the flash plug-in. now it should be a lot easier for you to enter the /CAMP. you username is not loger needed, your passwords are still valid. in case of having problems to log in, please tell us by using the sign in button.




the studio is recnently doing recent renderings and is finishing works to be sown in autumn/winter this year. above you see a snapshot of tuesdays meeting. the studio was able to go through three applications and to fix the design for our new 'product' (as it is announced on the facebook site, more info soon). the studio will close for summer break in august 21 and will probably open in autumn for upcoming gallery works. further productions remain delayed, please apologise.

the heidelberg based gallery boeckercontemporary has started a project called 'black box(es)', which is now exhibited at faux mouvement centre d'art contemporain in metz, france. the show features 251 cards from 22 countries from 5 continents. the black box show will be part of the art festival ' constellations de metz'. the cards in the display case will be changed every two weeks so all cards can be seen. by using a QR code visitors connected to facebook can find the works online with links to all participating artists. up to now more than 40.000 people have seen the black box cards on facebook.

the exhibition will tour from künstlerhaus saar in saarbrücken, germany, to the la 's' grand atelier in vielsalm, belgium, the faux mouvement (centre d'art contemporain), metz, france and the casino luxembourg (forum d'art contemporain) in luxemburg. the exhibitions will take place from june 2017 to end of 2019.

within the last week zany music announced a tiny sensation saying that digital content will be available for free on zany load in 2018. this means all AESTATE albums will be freely available. recently, you can already download 'patch', 'prov aiida ep' and 'greatest hits'. further content (like all record of tides albums) is supposed to be added.

update 2017-08-02: as we have reported that the new zany music site will not offer certain releases we are one step further today (as we are getting better every day). albums which are are released by zany music or other labels but are hosted via bandcamp will be represented via download link. it is not as comfortable as the other downloads but we will try to make it as complete as possible. full version will be up in 2018, beta version my come up erlier.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ third full length album 'solna' on the hamburg based netlabel kreislauf.org. the album is available as digital version only and can be streamed and downloaded via archive.org and sonicsquirrel.org. also you can watch the videos for the tracks ‘new technologies’ and ‘smoke, wax and honey’.

kreislauf.org has already released the reissue of record of tides´ debut 'timber' from 2004 in 2014 and the follow up 'vessel' in 2016. even in 2017, zany music released the physical only 'swan ep', its track 'the ten largest' is also supposed to be found on the new album.

the album cover (see above) shows an inverted and colour processed portrait photography of swedish occultist and painter hilma af klint. in her will she specified that her work (mostly abstract compositions and visual representations of complex spiritual ideas) should be kept secret for at least 20 years after her death before presented to the public. the album title refers to her place of birth. the physical release 'swan ep’ has also been inspired by her work.

the hysterical art exhibition took place once again placing small artworks in public space, this year the city of hamburg (and suburbs) served as open-air museum on july 14 and 15. the public space group show was once again curated by artist alischa diana leutner and featured works by 21 artists in general, next to leutner and piayda, roland baege, judith klein, holger küper and erwin wurm contributed small works to the show, all limited to 5 x 5 cm in size only. check the exhibitions section to see some installation views taken by curator alischa diana leutner.


the first ‘sommerfest in der ludwiggalerie’ at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen took place on july 16. the festival also featured an artist speed dating to get in touch with artists having exhibited at the ludwiggalerie and lists sven piayda, laas abendroth, philipp valenta, marie-luise o’byrne-brandl, helga brune and brigitte kraemer. even if piayda´s participation was not sure, he actually attended the artist speed dating, a 90 minute and well-attended opportunity to get in touch with contemporary artists. above you can see a picture of the event, more pictures can be found in the exhibitions section (scroll down).


the studio is recnently doing recent renderings and is finishing works to be sown in autumn/winter this year. above you see a render snippet of the new work 'nugget'. the studio will close for summer break in august 21 and will probably open in autumn for upcoming gallery works. further productions remain delayed, please apologise.

above you can see record of tides´sven piayda and andreas buttweiler aka mogwai, best known as dj, radio host and kreislauf.org netlabel boss during meeting up in bochum in the middle of may. they started to work together since 2013 putting out the AESTATE ep ‘sum falls’. up to now they have put out four releases together. sven already wrote in the blog: meeting was great and a proof for us to plan future collaborations together. getting in touch with people you only know digitally is a true risk, but here we have discovered seeking for similar things in music and placing it.

the album is once again inspired by swedish painter hilma af klint, the cover is supposed to show a processed version of her portrait while the album´s titel refers to her birthplace.

a new video for the track 'new technologies' will be out soon to promote the album. watch out.

even after closing the 'let´s buy it' show the ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen still shows pices by sven piayda in a parallelly ongoing show called 'SHOP! wie es uns gefällt.’ the group show is featuring commercial works and is an appendix to the big 'let`s buy it / kunst und einkauf' show at the museum.
the show also deals with issues of commerce and the value of art and features works by artists connected to oberhausen. next to piayda fellowship artists like michaela best, kuno lange, klaus jost and kelbassas panoptikum are part of the show.

the show is going to be closed on sunday, last chance to buy stuff at very moderate prices.

sven piayda is part of the ‘bückware’ department, a common concept by mülheim and oberhausen based artists exploring a special part of a shop: the ‘bückware’ (layaway) features products you will need for your everyday life, so they are presented on a low storage rack. as the artists forming the ‘bückware’ department try to present art as something needed in everyday life, they will present their works on a low storage rack as well, offered at low prices. the show will be on until june 18.

sven piayda offers about 30 different postcards showing cgi manipulated landscapes for very low prices. also two framed versions are available, please mail to studio[at]svenpiayda.com if you are interested in the framed versions. the framed pieces ‘beach dome’ and ‘the joy of three dimensions 1 & 2’ are in need to be signed. prices will be announced.
the post cards are presented in a small box, each available for 3 euro (framed cards on request). you can pay by leaving the artist´s name and your money at the cashier.

since the beginning of this year the studio called out 'crunch time'. so in the last six months we have been considering where we want to go with the studio and if it even still makes sense at all. we have been talking to curators, gallerists and art agents to see which direction we neet to move into. the studio has worked on different concepts on request for making new shows. next to making lectures and teaching, expanding collections and creating works on request the studio aims at expanding sales to fit the studio needs.

the numerous negotiations have lead into dead ends in some cases, some are sitll in process without any fixed results, some have lead to upcoming gallery shows. still it is too early to tell more and so far business as usual. ending the studio is not an option recently, we will see how things happen to be in about a year. the crunch time phase is nearly over, having put upcoming events on track.

also the studio is happy to welcome chris huff as head of studio. he is known as member of AESTATE and AESTATEvisual and has been taking care of video documentaries since 2012. he will take care of communication, production and installing issues.
next to this change all internships will end on june 23, we will take care of our helpers and make sure they will get into great companies. you can already apply for upcoming internships starting in september.
next to this the studio is looking for a 3d printing operator, you can apply direct to chris[at]studio.svenpiayda.com, also for internships.

after crunch time and staff changes the studio is looking forward to the summer break to start in the middle of july after a special public event we cannot talk about recently.

the studio has been working on a new concept for a solo show entitled 'ADAPTATION (you´re mine)', also with great help of our intern michele. unfortunately the concept has not been taken up so far, still it is in the /CAMP available for curators. it has not been added to the accessable concepts in the /CAMP but it is supposed to come up.

'a sudden gust of wind' was produced on request by the studio for the 'let´s buy it / kunst und einkauf' show at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen. as the piece gained great feedback and is requested, it will be available in an edition of 3 (+AP) from the studio soon. please contact the studio for price and conditions. unfortunately it is taking time to come up with a satisfying production standard of the dvd edition, please be patient, we are working on this issue.

W/I/S/H/I/N/G/E/T/T/I/N/G is a project which had been set up back in 2016 to start interaction and generating values. unfortunately the concept failed and was supposed to be turned into the follow-up project 'bigot black box' which is already off the schedule. the facebook group is supposed to be erased soon, make sure to finish your conversations.

even after closing the 'let´s buy it' show the ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen still shows pices by sven piayda in a parallelly ongoing show called 'SHOP! wie es uns gefällt.’ the group show is featuring commercial works and is an appendix to the big 'let`s buy it / kunst und einkauf' show at the museum.
the show also deals with issues of commerce and the value of art and features works by artists connected to oberhausen. next to piayda fellowship artists like michaela best, kuno lange, klaus jost and kelbassas panoptikum are part of the show.

sven piayda is part of the ‘bückware’ department, a common concept by mülheim and oberhausen based artists exploring a special part of a shop: the ‘bückware’ (layaway) features products you will need for your everyday life, so they are presented on a low storage rack. as the artists forming the ‘bückware’ department try to present art as something needed in everyday life, they will present their works on a low storage rack as well, offered at low prices. the show will be on until june 18.

sven piayda offers about 30 different postcards showing cgi manipulated landscapes for very low prices. also two framed versions are available (see above, still wrapped), please mail to studio[at]svenpiayda.com if you are interested in the framed versions. the framed pieces ‘beach dome’ and ‘the joy of three dimensions 1 & 2’ are in need to be signed. prices will be announced.
the post cards are presented in a small box, each available for 3 euro (framed cards on request). you can pay by leaving the artist´s name and your money at the cashier.


also on: 'jackson pollock visiting' at galerie an der ruhr / ruhr gallery. the gallery shows differnt works and perfomances dealing with the work and influence of jackson pollock. the show also features a new and exclusive work by sven piayda as titled 'pollock polyptych (random alignment)'. the group show is on last week on display now ending on pentecost sunday.

the heidelberg based gallery boeckercontemporary has started a postcard project called 'black box', which is supposed to be exhibited at a traveling art show. the exhibition will tour from künstlerhaus saar in saarbrücken, germany, to the la 's' grand atelier in vielsalm, belgium, the faux mouvement (centre d'art contemporain), metz france and the casino luxembourg (forum d'art contemporain) in luxemburg. the exhibitions will take place from june 2017 to end of 2019.

we are looking back on the great show 'let`s buy it / kunst und einkauf' at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen. the show focussed on issues of commerce and value of art. the show featured two video works by sven piayda, 'duracell video after fibonacci and vom bruch' and 'a sudden gust of wind' (see picture above) which was originally produced for this show. next to beuys, richter and picasso, contemporary artists like laas abendroth and philipp valenta have been part of the large and impressive line-up of this show. you can find out about all participating artists as well as dates connected to the show in the flyer for you to download.

the studio is recently very busy in answering requests, making new works and shows, closing projects like wishingetting as well, doing features. also the studio is supposed to change: it will offer productions for others, also there are plans to split it to create an autonomous studio to work on commercial productions in summer. the are many chances the studio called ‚crunch time’.
the studio is recently also fixing dates for the upcoming split and summer break. also the studio is recently not accepting further applications for internships. more soon.

the show also features a new and exclusive work by sven piayda as titled 'pollock polyptych (random alignment)'. the work is already listed on the portfolio can be loaded now. all works have been installed covered and have been disclosured during the vernissage. sven piayda did not install the piece himself (but had it mounted by the studio) but announced to be happy with the result and well entertained by the disclosures during the opening.

we are happy to announce galerie an der ruhr / ruhr gallery will open the group show 'jackson pollock visiting' on may 7, 4 pm. the gallery will host fiffernt shows and perfomances dealing with the work and influence of jackson pollock.

the show will also feature a new and exclusive work by sven piayda as titled 'pollock polyptych (random alignment)'. the work is already listed on the portfolio site but cannot be loaded yet, the piece is supposed to be shown in an exhibition starting on may 7, it will be added later on. all works are supposed to be installed covered and will be disclosured during the vernissage on the upcoming sunday afternoon. so we cannot show any snippets yet.

you are welcome to join the opening on sunay, may 7, 4 pm at the ruhr gallery. next to further participating artosts, sven piayda is expected to be present. all info at the bottom of this post.


during the lecture at AKL (see two snapshots of the lecture as delivered by participator anna-maria früh (used by permission)) piayda talked about the upcoming work. the piece is supposed to interpret pollock´s approch form a computer´s point of view, eliminating the ductus, dealing with the tension of generative perfection and chaos.
the work was produced exclusivly on request and will be availably during the exhibition only.

the studio has been busy over the last month ans finally managed to update the portfolio. the update contains six new photography tableaus (sometimes pure processed photography, sometime cgi only, sometimes mixed), three new video installations among 'picture of montreal' as shown above as well as a new sound piece and addition to the 'series' and 'projects' sections.

the studio have even produced some more pieces holding them back for later. also piayda and the studio are working on the 'adaptation' film, which was concepted back in december 2016 and is supposed to be finished soon. the film piece is supposed to be screened among a conceptional multimedia installation.

please note: the piece 'pollock polyptych (random alignment)' is already listed but cannot be loaded yet, the piece is supposed to be shown in an exhibition starting on may 7, it will be added later on.

on april 2, 2007 zany music released the self-titled debut album from AESTATE. the project originally was supposed to be a stand-alone release, now huff and piayda look back on releasing three albums and seven eps, as well as a remix album and ep plus a live dvd. the group also released a ‘greatest hits’ album after receiving the hungertuch art award in the music category. also the group developed live from a laptop act to an audiovisual experience under usage of real instruments. AESTATE faced different issues concerning collaborators and producers over the years but is recently working on new material.

zany music is now celebrating the tenth anniversary of the debut album for being a start for a new era and outstanding project. now you can download the debut album for free from zany music. to enable downloading the digital bundle you simply have to write to contact[at]aestate-online.com to receive the download code for starting the download. the digital bundle contains the nine original tracks of the debut plus digital only bonus track ‘plad 4040’ and the compact disc sized album cover in 300dpi.

AESTATE was originally founded to follow up projects like record of tides and Sellafield. according to rumours, the debut album tracks are partly based upon productions done for the third album of Sellafield. Also, record of tides has become an active project since 2014 again and has released a second album and an ep since.

chris huff and sven piayda do not appear active with the project recently but have confirmed to work on new material and to discuss opportunities for live shows.

in 2007 AESTATE played some live shows also trying tracks for the second album, here you see the group at fft in düsseldorf in may 2007. the group did not play live since 2014.


‘peel aest’ was not only the opening track of the album, it also was the first video from zany music using CGI making a big impression on the fans and defining the visual aesthetics of the group.


last thursday sven piayda held a lecture at AKL, above you can see two snapshots of the lecture as delivered by participator anna-maria früh (used by permission). the lecture was well attended and ended with a visit of ‘wishing well’, piayda´s first and only installative work in collaboration with michaela best, as installed at kuno park.
further lectures are recently not scheduled.

after the artist talk at kunstmuseum mülheim in february, sven piayda has been requested to do a new lecture, this time to be placed at AKL on thursday, march 30. the lecture will be not be public but we hope to contribute pictures afterwards. even if you cannot join the date we like to share this event to announce that you can still place booking requests for lectures. also we have added the history of lectures and artist talks to the press kit, make sure you will download the latest version.


AKL is placed next to kuno park, a private park where piayda has placed the ‘wishing well’, an audio interactive installative sculpture in collaboration with michaela best. as the piece is created mainly from old newspapers, the work is supposed to transform due weather influence. We have not attended the piece since installing it in summer 2016 and hope to come up with new pictures of it in april.


the 'SHOP! wie es uns gefällt.’ group show at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen is an appendix to the big 'let`s buy it / kunst und einkauf' show at the same museum, but it is attended very well and sells pretty well. The latest news on selling options appear as following: you can purchase on weekends by paying at the regular museum shop. above you see a snapshot of piayda checking his picture postcards. there may be further events escorting the two shows, we will let you know.

yesterday the ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen opened the 'SHOP! wie es uns gefällt.’ group show featuring commercial works by sven piayda and introduced by dr christine vogt. the exhibition is an appendix to the big 'let`s buy it / kunst und einkauf' show at the same museum.
the show also deals with issues of commerce and the value of art and features works by artists connected to oberhausen. next to piayda fellowship artists like michaela best, kuno lange, klaus jost and kelbassas panoptikum will be part of the show.

sven piayda is part of the ‘bückware’ department, a common concept by mülheim and oberhausen based artists exploring a special part of a shop: the ‘bückware’ (layaway) features products you will need for your everyday life, so they are presented on a low storage rack. as the artists forming the ‘bückware’ department try to present art as something needed in everyday life, they will present their works on a low storage rack as well, offered at low prices.
the show will be on until june 18.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ new 'swan ep’ as digital physical version only. the ep is available via zany music as compact disc in beautiful transparent artwork. it will not be re-released digitally later on, the release appears as limited edition and is supposed to start and experimental series of releases by record of tides concerning style and releasing method.

nevertheless, the ep and upcoming ep releases are precursors for a new and full-length album with no fixed release date. the new ep is inspired by the work of swedish painter hilma af klint and even adapted the cover from one of her paintings. the ep has been produced on one rainy day in summer 2016 and received some minor corrections in the following days.

the kunstmuseum mülheim will close the 'jahresausstellung mülheimer künstlerinnen und künstler' with a last minute guided tour by dr. beate reese on sunday, february 26 at 4.30pm. this will be the last opportunity to visit the show, it will close afterwards.

please note that sven piayda and no one from the studio will participate in this event.
having a last view on the exhibition is worth it: the group show features artist aged between 21 and 87 years and comes up with eight new artists chosen to contribute. this time, the four big rooms are presenting different disciplines: mostly photography and media in the first, graphics and painting in the second, sculpture in the third and new positions of new candidates in the fourth room.

even if there are two museum shows to report about we are happy to have updated some media for you. in 2013 the düsseldorf based art space d-52. raum für zeitgenössische kunst invited sven piayda to contribute works for the group show 'paintografie'.
piayda contributed four black and white (cgi) photographs as well as a video for the show.

last sunday the unstmuseum mülheim opened for a guided tour with artist talk of the 'jahresausstellung mülheimer künstlerinnen und künstler'. curator anja bauer-kerksen guided through the exhibition and explored with participating artists the current exhibition.

the show features new works from local artists and those having a connection to the city by birth or residency. the group show features artist aged between 21 and 87 years and comes up with eight new artists chosen to contribute. this time, the four big rooms are presenting different disciplines: mostly photography and media in the first, graphics and painting in the second, sculpture in the third and new positions of new candidates in the fourth room.

escorting the group show the museum has set a last minute guided tour for sunday, february 26 at 4.30pm. this will be the last opportunity to visit the show, it will close afterwards. please check the studio site on facebook for recent changes and updates.

piayda is recently busy on placing a lecture at AKL, interviews for the ludwiggalerie blog and preparations of new shows. we hope to present these features soon.


the show features two photographs as well as a new video work by sven piayda, 'eve' and 'happy prince' (see picture above) and 'spirit with thorne' which is premiered at this show. above you see anja bauer-kerksen and sven piayda in conversation exploring the conceptual approach to his work. you may like to have a look at more installation views of piayda´s works and some more pictures of teh artist talk over at the exhibitions section. here we would like to thank helga loddeke, natalija usakova and michaela best for taking and sending pictures.

the big catalogue escorting the 'let´s by it show' has been released by kerber and is available from the museum shop for only 29,80 euro.




the studio is recently very busy in answering requests, making new works and shows, launching projects like wishingetting and bigot black box as well, doing features. also the studio is supposed to change: it will offer productions for others, also there are plans to split it to create an autonomous studio to work on commercial productions. watch the changes and cross your fingers: studio.svenpiayda.com
