following the tradition, we´d like to look back on 2016. this year we can look back on smaller and larger art shows, at least two small solo shows and numerous collaborations for group shows. starting with the annual group show at kunstmuseum mülheim as followed by the solo show at kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen. also matthias danberg and sven piayda managed to come up with their common solo show 'tragic kingdom (exquisite boredom)' as curated and introduced by linda schröer.

finally and crowned with winning the promotion prize of the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft this year will be remebered as one of recieving public appreciation.

we are truly looking back on a succesful year and like to thank collaborators and supporters like anja bauer and barbara thönnes of kunstmuseum mülheim an der ruhr, christiane wanken of kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen, gisbert danberg of kunstraum unten, matthias danberg, linda schröer of dortmunder kunstverein, michaela best, alischa diana leutner, roman pilgrim, dr. christine vogt of ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen and prof. hendrik dorgathen alongside the jury for the ruhrpreis award.

showing 'achetypes' at the JAHRESAUSSTELLUNG MÜLHEIMER KÜNSTLERINNEN UND KÜNSTLER 2016 at kunstmuseum mülheim an der ruhr was a strong overture for sven piayda and the studio. it is believed (not confirmed) that this show made the impression to put piayda on the list for getting the award. the 2017 group show will open in january, more info below.

making a lecture at kunstmuseum mülheim with matthias danberg appeard to be a good idea, unfortunately ms bauer could not host the event based upon the prepared structure, so danberg and piayda created a more open lecture. even recieving great feedback by visitors the museum did not continue lecture events even after having announced it. danberg and piayda are also not focussing on going on with lectures but have plans for future collaborations.


a funny but true quote from the press conference revealing the 2016 ruhrpreis awardees. the quote has already become a running gag. nevertheless, piayda has been featured quite often in the press this year, find the collected articles in the press section.


for the tinkrather symposium piayda collaborated with michaela best to create a first sculptural/installative work called 'wishing well' as made of old newspapers. as you throw in coins music will play. the piece is based upon the idea of a experimental material study, less on the claim to be a piece of art. nevertheless, we will hopefully present pictures thowing the transformation by wheather.


also we will not forget two smaller group shows: alischa diana leutner curated the HYSTERICAL MEDIA ART EXHIBITION at ziggo dome, amsterdam, netherlands. also roman pilgrim created 'WAR // ist' at eurasia & pilgrim.art, gelsenkirchen.


'duracell video after vom bruch and fibonacci' is a simple but conceptional perfectly created video loop which has been shown at kunstmuseum mülheim and will return in 2017 in the ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen alongside with a new video piece in the LET`S BUY IT / KUNST UND EINKAUF group show featuring some big names. check the flyer.

also piayda will contribute works for 'SHOP! Wie es uns gefällt.' to be opened in march at the ludwiggalerie.


the kunstmuseum mülheim will open the 2017 annual art exhibition featuring two known photographs as well as a new video work. a still and a text has already been leaked into the current press kit, so we know thet 'spirit with thorne' will be displayed in the upcoming show.


record of tides released the second album 'vessel' paralelly on zany music and kreislauf.org, physical and digital. the album is great follow up to the 2014 debut. more music is expected for 2017.

AESTATE 'renites'
after being scheduled and delayed over and over again due technical problems the berlin based label CRAZY LANGUAGE has surprisingly released their ten years anniverary 'CRAZY 10 YEARS A/V COMPILATION' on december 26, 2016. the release features the new AESTATE track 'renites' as well as a video directed by LASAL.
next to AESTATE 30 further artists can be found on the album, all featured with track and video.

the track 'renites' is the group´s only release for 2016, new music is believed to be in the making but not scheduled to be released.

last sunday, musician peter eisold and artist sven piayda recieved the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft 2016. the award hast been handed over by mülheim´s major ulrich scholten and is the city´s higest cultural award. the award has been split once again, experimental musician peter eisold receives the main award, piayda is getting the promotion prize. eisold already received the promotion prize in 2002.

the ceremony featured a greeting by major ulrich scholten, laudation speeches by frank niehusmann for eisold and dr. christine vogt for piayda. following the awardees’ crossover approach to their disciplines, trio knu! performed live during the ceremony.

the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft was founded by the city of mülheim an der ruhr in 1962 and is donated by the sparkasse mülheim. it is supposed to be given to artists or scientists and their work and their connection to the city of mülheim. the jury has chosen piayda for working with contemporary media and being connected to mülheim an der ruhr and its art scene. by awarding the promotion prize the jury hopes for future works to be produced and to be shown in the cities´ context.

the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft has already put awardees on the list like helge schneider, christoph schlingensief and werner nekes among affiliated visual artists like uwe-dieter bleil, ralf raßloff and georg weber. you can find out more about the prize and its list of awardees over at wikipedia and on the official site of the prize.

back in june the awardees for this year´s ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft had been announced during a press conference at the town hall. now, peter eisold and sven piayda have finally received the award.

in a short speech piayda announced to be thankful for getting the award and shows graditude to family, friends and colloborators.

dr. christine vogt came up with a great laudatio on sven piayda exploring the issues and approaches to his work. even looking back on common exhibitions, dr. vogt announced the upcoming group show ' LET`S BUY IT / KUNST UND EINKAUF' at ludwiggalerie schloss oberhausen featuring two video works (one exclusivly produced) by piayda among works by great artists as joseph beuys, gerhard richter and laas abendroth.the show will be escorted by a catalogue and will be opened on jamuary 21. set your schedules!

signing the citiy´s golden book is a big honour, piayda has already announced to not remember what was to read on the page but having written his name properly.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ new full lenghth album 'vessel' as digital version. the album is available via kreislauf.org as free download digtal version and via zany music as physical version. the album is now re-released digitally after the physical release on august 1st, about 12 years after the 2004 debut 'timber'.

the new release is long awaited and brings back the special sound featuring pitched-down drums, calm basses and ambient sounds as well as drone layers and lo-fi guitars. record of tides was founded originally as group and became inactive shortly after the debut release, allthough the production of a follow-up album was mentioned several times. in 2014 piayda announced to be working on new tracks to be put out with record of tides as a solo project. the tracks had been produced between 2014 and 2016, the record also features tracks from the 2004 sessions.

last friday, eurasia & pilgrim.art in gelsenkirchen opend a new exhibition project curated by roman pilgrim, gelsenkirchen based artist. escorting his large scale monochrome paintings he invited cologne based kitsch artists verena cojic and sven piayda to contribute works for the project dealing with the issue of war.

during the opening speech roman pilgrim explained his approach to bring the issue of current wars into peoples´ minds like a brand to generate awareness for war and its effects while focusing on the need to end violent conflicts.
also, musician tommy finke performed at the vernissage.


the show featuring painting, kitsch art and a sound installation can be visited every saturday from 2 – 5pm until november 19.

on friday, september 30, eurasia & pilgrim.art in gelsenkirchen will open a new exhibition project. roman pilgrim, gelsenkirchen based maker and curator for the project, has invited verena cojic and sven piayda to join him for the project dealing with the issue of war. the show is supposed to feature painting, kitsch art and a sound sculpture, musician tommy finke is supposed to perform for the vernissage. you are welcome to join the event.

Für seine neuste Serie abstrakter Werke hat der Gelsenkirchener Künstler Roman Pilgrim sich mit dem Thema Krieg auseinandergesetzt: WAR // ist – Krieg existiert. In den Schulen ist Krieg ein Begriff, der vor allem im Geschichtsunterricht auf der Agenda steht. Doch ist Krieg nur Geschichte? Mit dem neuen internationalen Terror rückt das Wort in unserem Alltag immer näher und bleibt doch unwirklich. Aktuelle Kriege, wie die in Syrien oder Afghanistan, registrieren wir in den Medien, als sei es eine Inszenierung. Politik – Industrie – Entertainment: Krieg ist gesellschaftsfähig geworden. Braucht die Gesellschaft regelmäßig Krieg, um sich neu zu sortieren? Zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung WAR // ist wagt Pilgrim den Versuch einer eigenen Inszenierung.

Verena Cojic zeigt Kitschkunst. Die Künstlerin aus Köln nähert sich dem Thema Krieg mit Glitzer und bunten Farben. Ihre außergewöhnliche Kunst, mit Elementen aus Spielzeug und Strass, wirkt abstrus und gleichzeitig verzaubernd. Sie ist eine gelungene Mischung aus kindlicher Naivität und künstlerischer Perfektion. Liebe zum Detail zieht sich hierbei durchweg durch all ihre Arbeiten.

Sven Piayda aus Mülheim an der Ruhr sorgt mit seiner Soundinstallation „Broken“ für eine bewusst beklemmende Stimmung im nahezu dunklen Raum. Piayda wurde in diesem Jahr der Ruhrpreis für seine beeindruckende künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit Medien verliehen, aber auch als Ermutigung, weiterhin unkonventionelle Wege im etablierten Kunstbetrieb zu gehen.

on friday, september 2, kunstraum unten in bochum opened the double solo show by matthias danberg and sven piayda entitled 'tragic kingdom (exquisite boredom)'. here curator linda schröer gave a great introduction on the show´s concepts and the artists´ work in it. above you see linda schröer during ther speech in the main showroom turning the exhibition into a great experience.

after a long time of preparing we are happy to announce the upcoming double solo show by matthias danberg and sven piayda entitled 'tragic kingdom (exquisite boredom)' at kunstraum unten in bochum. the show is curated by linda schröer and features photography, cgi, video and sound.
gallery head gisbert danberg started to plan a show featuring the artists back in october 2015, different delays gave time to develop a great concept and made the show now concentrate on two artists only.

the show will be opened on september 2 and will feature an introduction speech by curator linda schröer giving a larger view on concept and exhibited works. all info on the upcoming show at the bottom of this post.

Die im Ruhrgebiet beheimateten Künstler Matthias Danberg und Sven Piayda diskutieren in ihrer auf digitaler Bildproduktion bzw. -bearbeitung basierenden Praxis die Grenzen künstlerischer Medien. In der gemeinsam konzipierten Ausstellung „Tragic Kingdom (Exquisite Boredom)“ erweitern sie in Bildern, Videos sowie einer Soundarbeit ihre bisherigen Fragestellungen durch die Auseinandersetzung mit der Krux des Künstlerseins sowie den Unzulänglichkeiten des Kunstbetriebs.

once again mülheim based artist kuno lange has invited different fellowship artists for the tinkrather symposium. this event is set to be private and can be visited only by personal invitation but it is supposed to be well documented. the participationg artists are believed to devellop works for kuno park to remain in the park.

the tinkrather symposium is a variation of related events like the tinkrather festspiele and the EGGXPO. above you see piayda during the recording of sound for his installation at the tinkrather festspiele 2013.

this year michaela best and sven piayda will team up for a common piece: inspired by skulpturprojekte münster the artists have announced to create a work called 'wishing well', a mixture of sculpture, material study, sound and the issue of wishing and getting.

next to best and piayda related artists like klaus jost, kelbassas panoptikum and kuno lange himself (next to further artists) will participate. the pieces are supposed to be produced starting on august 10 and will be presented on saturday, august 13.

michaela best joined the EGGXPO 2011 showing her embroidery works making a larger impression. now, five years later, best focusses once again on fargile the material of newspapers to make an idea last.


once again, above you can watch the documentary of the 2013 tinkrather festspiele featuring piayda´s 'piano strings to drone for eternity' sound installation. trivia fact: the shed holding the speaker is already destoyed, the piece is available on compact disc as signed and limited edition.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ second album 'vessel' on zany music. the album is available as physical version on compact disc only and can be ordered via zany music. 'vessel' is the second album of the project released twelve years after the tebut album 'timber' in 2004.

the production for thisalbum already started in 2014, it also features productions from 2004. as it was finished the release date was delayed over and over again, finaly, the album is out and available today.

Zwölf Jahre nach dem Debutalbum ‚Timber' folgt nun das zweite Album ‚Vessel' und es macht bereits nach den ersten Takten klar, dass sich das Warten gelohnt hat. Wie schon beim Erstling suchen die Sounds konzeptionell die nähe zum Meer: entspannt, experimentell und betont Lo-Fi. Gitarren sind auf diesem Album sogar als solche zu erkennen und mischen sich zu Noise, Drone und runtergepitchten Drums, meist getragen von einfachen Basslines, die die Tracks zusammenhalten. Die Produktion soll unter anderem deshalb so lange gedauert haben, weil es über Jahre hinweg nicht gelungen war, den speziellen Sound des von ‚Timber' zu kreieren, ‚Vessel' entwickelt den Record-Of-Tides-Sound sogar weiter.

Record Of Tides wurde 2003 als Duo gegründet. Nachdem das Debut von 2004 relativ wenig Beachtung fand, wandten sich die Mitglieder anderen Projekten zu, übrig ist noch Sven Piayda, der in den letzten Jahren als Medienkünstler und eine Hälfte der Electronica/Post-Rock-Gruppe AESTATE von sich reden machte. Nachdem das Debutalbum wiederentdeckt wurde, stellte kreislauf.org 2014 einen viel beachteten digitalen Re-Release bereit. ‚Vessel' wird daher klassich auf zany music als CD und etwas später digital auf kreislauf.org erscheinen. Ob es bis zur nächsten Veröffentlichung wieder eine Dekade dauert, bleibt ungewiss, angeblich liegt schon ein weiterer Release bereit. Die Gezeiten wechseln sehr langsam bei Record Of Tides.

after a longer gap and reduced output compared to earlier years, the studio has put new works into the portfolio. the update features five tableaus, as photographed in belgium, france and germany containing typical cgi objects.
the video portfolio features works of larger production and more different production methods: next to computer generated imagery you will find found footage and analogue animated pices.

'a sudden gust of wind' has been produced on request of a museum and is supposed to be screened during an upcoming exhibition on art and money in early 2017. the four minute loop explores the frozen moment of loosing the money in a gust of wind as captured by a moving camara, also referred as 'matrix effect'. also the video features extreme zoom on stills reminding of american seventies cop series.
it can be already be watched in the /CAMP.




'summer brak 2004' is originally a split screen video from 2009, now it comes back as full screen video with expanded music by record of tides, a differnt cut and scenes which had been missing in the 2009 version.


'niagara falls' is based upon stock footage. while panning slowly from left to right, you may realize the still to be an extremely slowed down video, somewhere between a photography and a movie.

it is our massive pleasure to announce the release of record of tides´ new full lenghth album 'vessel'. the album will be available via zany music as physical version only, the cd copies come with beautiful transparent artwork. the album will be released on august 1st, about 12 years after the 2004 debut 'timber'.
the new release is long awaited and brings back the special sound featuring pitched-down drums, calm basses and ambient sounds as well as drone layers and lo-fi guitars. record of tides was founded originally as group and became inactive shortly after the debut release, allthough the production of a follow-up album was mentioned several times. in 2014 piayda announced to be working on new tracks to be put out with record of tides as a solo project. the tracks had been produced between 2014 and 2016, the record also features tracks from the 2004 sessions.
live performances are not on schedule, according to rumours more material is around waiting to be released.



the beautiful transparent artwork physical copies can be ordered from zany music. the label decided for a classic release but will probably collaborate with kreislauf.org again to deliver a digital version. make sure to place your orders on time, the limited numer of copies is expected to be sold out soon.

it is our massive pleasure to announce that sven piayda will receive the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft 2016. the award is split once again, experimental musician peter eisold will receive the main award, piayda is going to get the promotion prize. eisold already received the promotion prize in 2002.
this year´s prize winners have been presented during the press conference last wednesday at the town hall among ulrich ernst, deputy mayor in charge of cultural affairs of the city of mülheim an der ruhr, martin weck, chairman of sparkasse mülheim an der ruhr (both part of the ten head jury) and frank baudy, head of cultural business. the awards ceremony is scheduled for autumn, a fixed date is supposed to be confessed.

the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft was founded by the city of mülheim an der ruhr in 1962 and is donated by the sparkasse mülheim. it is supposed to be given to artists or scientists and their work and their connection to the city of mülheim. the jury has chosen piayda for working with contemporary media and being connected to mülheim an der ruhr and its art scene. by awarding the promotion prize the jury hopes for future works to be produced and to be shown in the cities´ context.
the ruhrpreis für kunst und wissenschaft has already put awardees on the list like helge schneider, christoph schlingensief and werner nekes among affiliated visual artists like uwe-dieter bleil, ralf raßloff and georg weber. you can find out more about the prize and its list of awardees over at wikipedia and on the official site of the prize. more info, dates and statements to come up.

while blogging about ongoing studio work and complex concepts which have not been taken up, sven piayda has released his dismissed concept paper 'in fact you do not know' via /CAMP which was orioginally written for the limburg art award 2016.
piayda points out that he is a little bit disapponted but also glad to not have to build up the show, so he releases the paper to show the effort that it takes to make it. it is meant to be used as inspiration and to 'imagine what the show was supposed to look like and decide if it would have been great or crap'.

above you see a still from 'antenna' a video work dealing with different randomly played scenes creating and endless screening without looping. the work was an important element of 'in fact you do not know' but it is supposed to be exhibited during upcoming shows this year.

the kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen has launched their new exhibition series called gästezimmer as curated by christiane wanken debuting with sven piayda´s video piece 'puddle'. it can be experienced from the outside of the museum fom 11am to 10pm.

escorting the exhibition project we would like to announce an upcoming event at the museum: on sunday, may 29, 3pm, the museum will invite you for a guided tour featuring 'puddle' next to works from the collection and pieces being currently on exhibition. kerrin postert is scheduled to guide you through the shows and this public event. the tour is supposed to take an hour.

chritiane wanken, curator for the gästezimmer, is recently working on the new arrangement and restoration of the collection of kinetic art of the kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen. the collection has been closed on may 2 and is expected to be reopened on july 10. this date is what the museum website announces, even when we had other dates around. this may be a great opportunity to visit the museum and enjoy the kinitec collection as well as 'puddle' again.

last saturday the HYSTERICAL MEDIA ART EXHIBITION was launched at ziggo dome in amsterdam, netherlands. this project features small and exclusive works (not larger than 5 by 5 cm) to be installed in and aroind the ziggo dome. the project was curated by alischa diana leutner this time who already reported the steady vanishing of artworks caused by visitors following the exhibitions motto 'you have found a piece of art'. you can find a list of all participating artists over here. we expect the works to be taken away compleately over a period of just a few weeks.

sven piayda has contributed two black and white cgi photography pieces working together like memory cards showing a humanoid stainles steel skeleton placed in the woods. you can watch more installation views asa well as a closer view on piayda´s pieces over in the exhibitions section.

today the kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen has launched their new exhibition series called gästezimmer as curated by christiane wanken. the series debuts with sven piayda´s 2014 video piece 'puddle'. the new space is and will be curated by christiane wanken and will be ready to be experienced from the outside of the museum only. the video installation was launched during the press conference today and can be watched every day from 11 am to 10 pm and is scheduled to be running until october 5.

above you see sven piayda and curator christiane wanken next to the video piece at its very pecial location. as the work deals with mirroring surfaces as well as the relation of in- and outside, it fits perfectly into the forecourt of the museum.

Piayda fängt hier ein Bild ein, das die Umgebung wiederspiegelt und gleichzeitig verfremdet, um so neue Blicke zu erzeugen. Die durch Regenfall zufällig entstandene Pfütze wird durch den vom Künstler gewählten Bildausschnitt zur Abstraktion einer alltäglichen Gegebenheit. Dabei geht es ihm auch um die Oberfläche die durchdrungen und damit verändert wird. Die Pfütze ist nicht länger glatte Oberfläche und perfekte Spiegelung, sondern eine immer wieder durchbrochene. Puddle zeigt quasi drei Realitäten - die tatsächliche Handlung im urbanen Umfeld, deren Spiegelung und die gleichzeitige Aufnahme im digitalen Medium, die sie zum abstrakten Gebilde werden lässt. Die gedankliche Spieglung des Wetters erzeugt zudem einen großen Reiz: Das Video ist im 'Gästezimmer' ausschließlich von außen, also in direkter Einwirkung des Wetters zu betrachten. Es könnte also die gleiche Situation entstehen und es regnet, oder aber die Sonne scheint, und die Pfütze ist nur eine Erinnerung.

danberg and piayda did the 'digital lecture' last thursday at the kunstmuseum mülheim an der ruhr. the lecture was well attended and gained great feedback. the artists explained contemporary approaches and working concepts and gave examples of their own work in conversation with barbara thönnes m.a.. wa have added all collected pictures at the exhibitions section.
danberg and piayda would like to thank anja bauer, barbara thönnes, dr. beate reese and everyone at the museum mülheim for making the event posible, even under tricky conditions.

as the museum will start a new series of small exhibitions in a new showroom called gästezimmer. the series will debut with sven piayda´s 2014 video piece 'puddle' next wednesday. the new space will be curated by christiane wanken and will be ready to be experienced from the outside and will be running about six months.
the video installation will be launched during the press conference on wednesday, april 13, 11 am. you are welcome to join, sven piayda is expected to be present, curator christione wanken is expected to introduce to the work and the exhibition project.

next thursday, the kunstmuseum mülheim an der ruhr will invite for a special event. escorting the museum´s current show 'i like fortschritt' contemporary and digitally working artists matthias danberg and sven piayda will discuss in conversation with anja bauer m.a. the possibilities of the medium, the usage and artistic revolution which might be found in it.

danberg and piayda will guide through current trends of digital production based upon their own point of view displayed and illustrated by examples of their own work.
the idea for one or a series of lectures was develloped about 15 months ago, the upcoming lecture is scheduled as an experiment, based upon process, not on fixed results.

update 2016-04-06: unfortunately, many of our conversation participants are recently facing issues of health, a spring flu seems to be around, anja bauer m.a. will not be able to join the event. barbara thönnes m.a., also member of the museum staff, usually concerned with educative projects of the kunstmuseum mülheim, will guide through the conversation on thursday. even after a long-term preparing the event is facing numerous issues now. the museum as well as danberg and piayda will take care that the event will take place, actually differently than announced, please apologise.

danberg and piayda look back on numerous exhibitions dealing with digitally produced artworks. as they are recently working on new stuff for a common show they take the chance now to discuss their position in the endless possibilities in conceptual approach and production.

as the museum will start a new series of small exhibitions in a new showroom called gästezimmer the series will debut with sven piayda´s 2014 video piece 'puddle'. the new space will be curated by christiane wanken and will be ready to be experienced from the outside and will be running about six months.

the video installation is scheduled to be running from april 13 to october 9 and will be watchable from the outside of the museum. an opening date is not on schedule, but you can join the press conference, more info soon.

now the museum has released a postcards promoting the show, illustraed by a still from the video piece. make sure you´ll get a copy.

also, we like to share an excerpt from the press release by curator christiane wanken:
Piayda fängt hier ein Bild ein, das die Umgebung wiederspiegelt und gleichzeitig verfremdet, um so neue Blicke zu erzeugen. Die durch Regenfall zufällig entstandene Pfütze wird durch den vom Künstler gewählten Bildausschnitt zur Abstraktion einer alltäglichen Gegebenheit. Dabei geht es ihm auch um die Oberfläche die durchdrungen und damit verändert wird. Die Pfütze ist nicht länger glatte Oberfläche und perfekte Spiegelung, sondern eine immer wieder durchbrochene. Puddle zeigt quasi drei Realitäten - die tatsächliche Handlung im urbanen Umfeld, deren Spiegelung und die gleichzeitige Aufnahme im digitalen Medium, die sie zum abstrakten Gebilde werden lässt. Die gedankliche Spieglung des Wetters erzeugt zudem einen großen Reiz: Das Video ist im 'Gästezimmer' ausschließlich von außen, also in direkter Einwirkung des Wetters zu betrachten. Es könnte also die gleiche Situation entstehen und es regnet, oder aber die Sonne scheint, und die Pfütze ist nur eine Erinnerung.

it is our massive pleasure to announce another collaboration with kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen. as the museum will start a new series of small exhibitions in a new showroom called gästezimmer the series will debut with sven piayda´s 2014 video piece 'puddle'.
the new space will be curated by christiane wanken and will be ready to be experienced from the outside and will be running about six months.

the collaboration is based upon piayda´s participation of the last group show of gelsenkirchen based artists showing 'videotape/spool'. wanken and piayda discussed the space and possible works among 'videotape' as well as architecture related works but finally picked 'puddle' for this special space.

the video installation is scheduled to be running from april 13 to october 9. an opening date is not on schedule, but you can join the press conference, more info soon.
also a set of postcards are in production and will be available for you soon, watch out.



'puddle' is one of the more calm videos dealing with different issues of the image. as the showroom cannot be entered but watched through glass, the video picks up the idea of the surface, mirror and diffusion.
being accessable from the outside, the video showing a rainiy day hopefully mirrors or contrasts the current weather.

above you see two installation views of the piece as taken in 2014 at the ikosaeder gallery and kunstverein bochumer kulturrat. as the piece features sound we hope it wil ba available in the installation set-up.

last sunday the kunstmuseum mülheim closed the annual group exhibition of selected 60 mülheim based artists with a comprehensive artist talk. anja bauer guided through the show during this extremely well-attended event. above you see sven piayda giving conceptional infromation on his new video 'duracell video after vom bruch and fibonacci' as well as to his cgi mini series ‘mediaeval landscapes’.

the show closed after only three weeks on disply but the exhibition as well as the artist talk gained great feedback.


yet another snapshot of the guided artist talk, the ‘mediaeval landscapes' became popular for their bright colors, piyda explained the accidental choice of colours as affected by the digital production method. anja bauer mentioned the upcoming event dealing with the role of digital production in contemprary art.

some collected installation views through the years: piayda debuted in 2013 (see bottom line of images), returned in 2014 and now did the next and third show in 2016. as he is now part of the consortium after three participations, we expect him to show new works in the upcoming show. also, the renovation of teh museum will be delayed, so the next show will come up probably in a year.

the kunstmuseum mülheim opened the annual group exhibition of selected 60 mülheim based artists two weeks ago. the show features sven piayda´s new video 'duracell video after vom bruch and fibonacci' and cgi works ‘mediaeval landscapes’ next to participations of artists like natalija usakova, martina deli, monika grünke, peter helmke and ralf raßloff to name a few.

the show will be closed after only three weeks on disply on sunday, february 21. also on this day at 11.30 the museum will offer an artist talk featuring many participating artists as guided by anja bauer m.a..
above you see piayda next to his cgi works, sunday will be the opportunity to get some background information on the exhibited works and to ask and interact with the featured artist directly.

above you see anja bauer during her first guided tour through the show next to ‘mediaeval landscapes’. please note: we have received complains concerning watermarks on the pictures. we apologize for this phenomenon as it is based upon the production method as well as on the museum´s conditions. the studio has already fixed the problem and promises to erase the spots for the next exhibition.

sven piayda´s online solo gallery show called '#HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE' at galerie tellerrand, gelsenkirchen was closed yesterday. the show gained great feedback and was highly frequented, gallery and artist look back on a successful experiment. the laudatio by michael em walter can now be found in the exhibitions section over here and the interview with michael em walter and sven piayda can be read as screenshot version over here.


still we are very proud to announce that 'videotape/spool' by sven piayda is part of the quadrienal group show of gelsenkirchen based artists at kunstmuseum gelsenkirch. the show will open for the last time on sunday, february 7, so this will be your last chance to visit the show. also we are happy to announce that the studio is working on a further collaboration with the museum.



the kunstmuseum gelsenkirchen has released a fantastic catalogue escorting the show. it is available for 15 euro from the museum and is a good overview on the show and a great art book anyway.
