2012-12-31 2012 synopsis: past, present and future

every year needs a look back, 2012 had - compared to other years - less events, but bigger ones, with strong echo. the most important show in this year was definitely the "promise of absence" solo show at galerie143. an exhibition escorted by a great media echo, reviews and interviews, also the gallery offered artist talk and guidance making this show a great success with big response and base for future projects with the gallery and other places for art.
currently the galerie143 is showing the "offene galerie" featuring works by michaela best, wolfgang van triel, martin naber, sven piayda and others. you can visit it until february 2nd.

next to the solo show piayda participated in about eight group shows (see 2012 exhibitions), we are focussing here on the most interesting ones, starting with "zwei, eins, meins" showing piayda and his warmoth prototype at the museum folkwang among further artists presenting themseles next to an object of personal importance.
in summer, the great museum abtei liesborn in wadersloh opened "aus dem leben der tische..." with piayda´s 2009 video work "summer break 2004". we remember a great show in a great museum, further table related shows are about to come up.
finally the wiesbaden show at künstlerverein walkmühle contained "bass", the only work in a sound related show without any sound.

for 2013 no exhibition dates are fixed recently, piayda and the studio are recently editing material for commissions and competitions.

most of the 2012 showas are well documented, the künstlerverein walkmülhe and svennet feature video documentaries giving you an idea of the show. next to the videos, to great catalogues remain from this year:
the galerie143 published "the promise of absence" catalogue (produced by best/czech /piayda) and the "klang" catalogue with detailed background info on every artist.

in 2012 AESTATE did not manage to play live, but the group is planning future dates. in 2012 the group released the completing EP "remount 3.20" on illphabetik and the j.s. bach inspired mini ep "maria bach ep". also the group set up themselves as a rock band and released as penrose delta their debut "space of entire retreat" which turned out to be surprisingly succesful. the group is about to release another long EP digitally in 2013, as well a new output by penrose delta, while working on a new album, old tunes are believed to be released.

2012-12-08 galerie143 opens 'offene galerie' / new labkultur article

last saturday, galerie143 opened the 'offene galerie' cuarated by gallery head simone czech. as expected the show gained great response and feedback. the show gives an overview on contemporary positions from gallery related artists, some well-known associates as well as new discoveries, mostly photography among different disciplines. the show features 24 artists in general.

above you see sven piayda next to gallery head simone czech and wolfgang van triel who presented his photographic series on the location of the loveparade tragedy and its signs of remembering. the opening was joined by many participating artists like michaela best and martin naber, both showing works apart from photography. (photograph above by hendrik müller)

the show will be running until february 2, when it will be closed by finissage. (all info below)

2012-11-18 galerie143 opens 'offene galerie' on december 8

for the third time in the gallery history, the galerie143 in dortmund opens the 'offene galerie' cuarated by gallery head simone czech. the show will be opened on december 8 and will be running until february 2, when it will be closed by finissage. (all info below)
the show will feature 24 artists in general, some well-known associates as well as new discoveries.
this group show will be the third collaboration of czech and piayda after the 'offene galerie' show last year and the 'the promise of absence' solo show in summer.

above you can have an impression on last year´s show, enormous response is expected again.

the group show will feature the 2010 work 'blown away', which was on the kalkgestalten foundation show in 2010 and went into the hammes collection. the work will be available as 2/3 from the gallery.

this year´s group show will also feature some artist friends turning the line-up into a familiar one. embroidery artist michaela best will participate with an untitled work showing a TV test pattern. (see picture above, taken at the 2011 EGGXPO)
next to her, familiar artists like wolfgang van triel and martin naber will also contribute works to the show.

2012-10-30 AESTATE 'MARIA BACH EP' out now

it is our massive pleasure to announce a new EP by huff and piayda. this time the group interprets classical tunes by johann sebastian bach. the three track bundle was originally produced on commission for an art show, but is actually not on the show. digital kunstrasen is now releasing the music for free download. you can recieve it from the digital kunstrasen website, check below to go there and to download the MARIA BACH EP.

the group has announced to complete a longer EP in 2013, as well as new output by side project PENROSE DELTA. further media updates are scheduled, please be patient. for getting up-to-date news and media info on AESTATE, we reccomend the AESTATE site on facebook.

The duo AESTATE is a fix part of our netlabel since early 2010, with their new "Maria Bach EP", Piayda and Huff lead their experimental electronica into a classical direction. The title track has been conceived for a participation for a J.-S.-Bach-competition of the arthall Arnstadt, here at Digital Kunstrasen, you get the whole EP that has much going for electronica and classical fans. - dk

2012-10-15 'klang' exhibition is over, PVS art show still open

the künstlerverein walkmühle group show 'klang' dealing with the perception of sound in fine arts is over. the exhibition gained great response, and was a great opportunity to see piayda´s 'bass' as screened installation. we hope to present a catalogue soon, you can have a look at the video documentary and websites for research below.

even when this great show is over, you can experience another video work worth seeing. the PVS rhein-ruhr is recently showing the group show featuring artist of the TINKRATH GROUP. the exhibition also contains a video work by jochen schweizer which includes material produced by sven piayda. the silent one hour piece can be watched during the opening hours.(see below)

jochen schweizer´s video piece was originally produced for AESTATE and was screened during the live performance at the KAUE in gelsenkirchen in october 2011. we hope to announce upcoming live performancs for 2013 soon.

2012-10-06 künstlerverein walkmühle 'klang' last week of exhibition

the künstlerverein walkmühle in wiesbaden is recently showing the group show 'klang' dealing with the perception of sound in fine arts. the exhibition explores the connection of sound and visual works and the idea of sound as an artistic sculpture being exhibited in a showroom. the show features sven piayda´s 2011 video installtion entitled 'bass', silent loop of a speaker pretending to produce a low sound, actually to low to be heard anyway. the silent video loop was already part of the 'the promise of absence' show and is now shown as projection in the wiesbaden based showroom.

this week will be the last week of exhibition, the show will end on october 14. a final guided tour will take place on 2012-10-07, 3 pm, with dr. elke ullrich (info).
a catalogue is expected but not yet available..

piayda´s 'bass' is shown as projection as endless loop, prbably the best way to screen the work.

after the great solo show at galerie143 entitled 'the promise of absence' we would like to focus your attention on the the group exhibition going on featuring a video piece by sven piayda.

the dr. ellen markgraf curated show "aus dem leben der tische..." will run out after the next week now. the exhibition at museum abtei liesborn in wadersloh-liesborn is a great collection of works dealing with the table and it´s metaphorical meanings. school and the things tables mean in it and how they are treated is also a topical part within the exhibition.

in case that you did not have the chance to join the opening or visit the show within thelast weeks we would recommend to have a look at it know — or with the next seven days.

2012-07-29 galerie143 'the promise of absence' aftermath

after two and a half months, sven piayda´s solo show 'the promise of absence' at galerie143 in dortmund was closed yesterday. as it was a quite long exhibition, you could also experience it as a short period, the gallery and piayda took care for different events and features escorting the show like the neue kolonie west, artist talk, video documentaries and the catalogue.
gallery head simone czech and piayda are happy with the enormous response and success of the show and have announced further common projects for the future.

at least czech and piayda would like to thank everyone involved in producinhg the show, escorting via press articles and everyone visiting the gallery fo a look at the show, of course.

2012-07-13 'the promise of absence' documentary / artist talk aftermath

last saturday, the dortmund based galerie143 opened the doors for an artist talk with sven piayda upon his solo show 'the promise of absence'. above you see gallery head simone czech next to sven piayda in front of the best known work of the show, 'shedhead'.
piayda gave detailed info on his conceptual approach, the role and usage of technology and image generating and background info to every work exhibitioned.

2012-06-29 artist talk with piayda at galerie143 next saturday

the dortmund based galerie143 opened the sven piayda solo show 'the promise of absence' in may and it is running successfully and gaining great feedback. next saturday, july 7 you will ahve the opportunity to assemble for an artist talk at the gallery. sven piayda will be present to lead through the exhibition and give background information on conceptual and technical aspects of his work and the shown pieces.

the artist talk is part of the neue kolonie west rundgang #13, so all galleries, cultural places, ateliers and related institutions of the quater around the rheinische straße will be open and pleased to welcome you. next to the solo show in the gallery you will have the opportunity to spend a great cultural afternoon in dortmund. all info via neuekoloniewest.de and the pdf flyer.

as the artist talk is part of the nkw#13, it will take place at 4 pm and 8 pm as part of the guided tours through the quarter.
you are welcome to join at these times, also in the meantime.

2012-06-19 'aus dem leben der tische...' museum show open now

last sunday the museum abtei liesborn in wadersloh opened the group show "Aus dem Leben der Tische …" curator dr. ellen markgraf opened the show after giving detailed info and background on the participating artists and welcoming every present one personally. the exhibition features works by 23 contemporary artists dealing with the table in their work. sven piayda contributed "summer break 2004" as shown as monitor version here.
the show will be open until august 19.

the show is curated by dr. ellen markgraf and is the second collaboration of markgraf and piayda. after showing the "table dance" video installation in autumn 2011, the upcoming show features sven piayda´s video installtion "summer break 2004" as produced in 2009. further collabortions are in the making.

Dieses Video zeigt die Innenräume einer Grundschule während der Sommerferien 2004. Die sonst belebten Räume wirken in ihrer Verlassenheit anrührend undunheimlich zugleich. Die Zeit scheint in den Klassenräumen, Fluren und Toiletten der Schule stillzustehen, so scheint es medial nur konsequent, die Räume nicht zu Filmen, sondern Fotografien von ihnen zu zeigen. Die flackernden Bilder wecken zwar Assoziationen an alte Super-8 Formate, tatsächlich handelt es sich bei den Einstellungen jedoch um Fotografien, welche nachträglich mit wechselnden Helligkeiten versehen wurden und ihnen so eine Zeitebene zurück gegeben wurde.Die düsteren Sounds verstärken die Gesamtwirkung der Arbeit, welche zwischen nostalgischer Erinnerung und schrecklicher Vorahnung pendelt.So reflektiert die als Videoinstallation konzipierte Arbeit das Aussetzen und Wiederaufnehmen von Zeit und spiegelt dies in den verwendeten Medien von Fotografie und Video wieder.

as you may have noticed, this year is coined by "the promise of absence" the solo show by sven piayda at galerie143 in dortmund.
so we are happy to announce that there will be another show this summer featuring participation of piayda.

next sunday, june 17, the museum abtei liesborn in wadersloh-liesborn will open the group show "Aus dem Leben der Tische …"
the exhibition will feature works by 23 contemporary artists dealing with the table in their work.
the show will be opened on sunday, june 17 at 11 am and will be open until august 19.

(it was originally produced for the 2009 kunst cluster show in wuppertal but firstly screened during the SETS, STILLS, STORIES AND STRUCTURES solo show at stoffwechsel.

So kann man sich zwar sicher sein, dass Piaydas Bilder immer in irgendeiner Form nachträglich bearbeitet sind, aber in welchem Ausmaß dies geschehen ist, schwankt von einer Arbeit zur nächsten und ist ein Punkt, über den der Betrachter selbst sinnieren muss. Denn auf den ersten Blick wirken die Motive oft nicht manipuliert oder neu zusammengesetzt.

2012-05-14 'the promise of absence' open now / impressions

last saturday, after a long time of preparing, the galerie143 has finally opened the sven piayda solo show 'the promise of absence'. the show gained many visitors and great feedback.
the opening was taking place between 2 pm and 8 pm. even on request, gallery head simone czech and sven piayda are working on fixing a date for an artist talk, probably to be scheduled for july.

the exhibition can be visited during the opening hours each friday and saturday between 4 pm and 6 pm and on request. (details see below)

now that the 'promise of absence' show is installed and the catalogue is delivered, we are happy to come up with some previews of both.
above you can have a short look into the catalogue with "ring" and "shedhead" as featured in the exhibition. more info below.
additionally, we want to show you some more snippets.

galerie143 will open 'the promise of absence' next saturday, may 12, 2 pm to 7 pm.. sven piayda is expected to be present.

some vies into the gallery: the black and white works appear great on the white walls, the picture above shows one of three monitors presenting nine video installations from 2009 to 2012.

the catalogue cover features the icon of this show "shedhead", of course. it is available at the gallery only for 30 euro.

the catalogue contains all photographs shown in the exhibition.

additionally, there are more photographs, mainly black and white ones, compleating the concept, works from 2005 to 2012. here you see "pier" and "prints".

all video installtions of the show are featured as stills on black background giving info on format and length.

2012-04-27 'the promise of absence' gallery info and catalogue out

the opening date of sven piayda´s "the promise of absence" at the dortmund based galerie143 is getting closer. recently, everyone is very busy to to organize the final things concerning the show. as it is not installed now, it is getting forward.
cross your fingers, we hope to put everything together and we hope to see at the opening.
gallery head simone czech has released the text escorting the solo show, it will also be featured in the catalogue.

we are very happy to announce the catalogue to escort the show. it features a text by simone czech as well as further texts, all photographs and stills of video installations shown in the exhibition plus further mainly black and white photographs fitting into the promise of absence concept.
the catalogue counts 40 pages and is released by galerie143. you will be able to purchase the catalogue from may 12 on. as we have many requests recently, you can order it even now, but you will not recieve it before the show opens.
the catalogue is expected to be available for 30 euro. (to be confirmed)

it is our massive pleasure to pass on the news we have received from dortmund. the galerie143 will show a sven piayda solo exhibition entitled 'the promise of absence' from may 12 to july 28, 2012. the show will be opened on saturday afternoon of may 12, more info to be announced. gallery head simone czech and sven piayda have been planning the show for one year now, so other dates had been released, which are no longer valid.

the show is supposed to contain seven photographic works plus nine video works of the last years, all mainly black and white focusing on the abilities and disabilities of the medium. piayda has also created exclusive give-away cards for the show, a catalogue containing text by czech and the shown works plus further similar works is in the making, we will report the status. next to the opening, piayda is expected to be present for an artist talk later during the exhibition, a date will be announced.

2012-03-20 PENROSE DELTA debut album out now

we are very happy to annonce the release of 'space of entire retreat', the debut album by PENROSE DELTA. the album is out on DIGITAL KUNSTRASEN, so it is in the line of a few releases on and with the label since AESTATE EPs in 2010, over the RENERT TRIO album last summer up to this experimental rock experiments.

PENROSE DELTA is a side project by AESTATE and assembles next to huff and piayda guest and fellow musicians in a bandesque project.
the release appears as a tiny sensation, some recordings had been done back in 2009, some added in 2011 and finally in 2012. the release appeared as compleately differing from familiar AESTATE recordings but brilliant enough to be in need to be released.

after many ideas and discussions concerning format and content, the group decided for a free release.
live performances are not on schedule, there are no future plans to be spread yet.

last friday the museum folkwang opened the new show 'der mensch und seine objekte' escorted by another small exhibition project 'zwei, eins, meins' featuring work by sven piayda.
the 122 photograph pairs of contemporary photographers and visual artists showing themselves and an object related to them as double projection are shown on the foyer of the museum.
(you can enter this screening project for free)

among these numerous double portraits, sven piayda has contributed a self-portrait plus a picture of his favourite self-designed guitar prototype, often referred as 'susie'. (see above)

the pictures are shown in the foyer until the end of april. next to the screening project, the exhibition is worth to be seen, basted upon the giant photographic collection of the museum.

recently there are not many exhibitions with sven piayda´s participation, but a tiny contribution to a larger project will coming up this friday:
the museum folkwang in essen, opens a new exhibition on human beings and objects related to them (der mensch und seine objekte).
parallely the museum will show 122 photograph pairs of contemporary photographers and visual artists showing themselves and an object related to them as double projection in the foyer.

2012-02-06 AESTATE 'remount 3.20' ep out on illphabetik

it is our massive pleasure to announce the first release for 2012. the danish label illphabetik releases the long awaited follow up to to AESTATE´s 2011 post rock ep 'remount 3.10'.

the new ep is entitled 'remount 3.20' and is — as you can imagine — the compleating twin of this ep bundle and focusses more on electronica and classic idm sound.

the group is expanding the idea of twin eps spread over different labels and goes on with the idea started in 2010 with 'dominion empire' (digital kunstrasen) and 'reken harvest' (crazy language).

in 2010 sven piayda reported in the journal about the process of a image becoming an icon (2010-12-13 how the image becomes an icon | entry by sven). now, the work mentioned and going throug the process is part of a private collection. in collaboration with embroidery artist michaela best 'obh6/09-12' combuins photography and embroidery, pandering between documentary and poetic conservation.
this work is unique and no longer available to the public.

2012-01-23 EGGXPO 2012 without best and piayda

now that the first exhibition for 2012 is over we have some bad news for you. the 2012 EGGXPO will be opened without participation of embroidery artist michaela best and sven piayda.
above you can see some installtion views of the works shown in 2011.

both claim to have not enough new material in quantity of a solo show to be shown in spring.
the EGGXPO 2012 will be open on easter saturday and sunday, april 7. and 8, 2 - 7 pm at the atelier kuno lange in mülheim adr.

2012-01-09 'artists discover europe' show open

yesterday, the europa-union deutschland - kreisverband leverkusen opened the art show on contemporary views of europe by contemporary visual artists in the galerie im forum.
the exhibition was opened by dr. hans georg meyer of the union followed by a long award ceremony.

sven piayda is paricipating with the 2011 work on commission "band of twelve". you can visit the exhibition in the galerie im forum in leverkusen for free.

the europa-union deutschland - kreisverband leverkusen will open a new art show on contemporary views of europe by contemporary visual artists.
the exhibition is organized and curated by leverkusen based artist ellen loh-bachmann (eloba), pictured above during the video interview about the prize and the show. you can watch the shoet video below.

the show will be opened on sunday, january 8 at 4 pm, in the galerie im forum in leverkusen.
next to the opening eight prizes for participating artists will be awarded after the opening.
