2010 is over, even the capital of culture title is now moving on, the culture is believed to stay. for sven piayda this year was very productive and successful, focussing on photography and video related art and exhibitions and on AESTATE for audio releases and audiovisual live performances.

past:
sven piayda produced many well appreciated works and contributed to diffrent exhibititions, sometimes solo shows and sometimes contributions to group shows.
most remarkable are the contribution to the "im namen der lippischen rose" exhibition with "roses (after richter)" and the solo show at neuwohner/barabas/schreiner for stiftung kalkgestalten featuring photography. next to that there have been contributions to group shows and projects like the realismus-kontor (kunsthalle emden), eichbaum countdown (temporäre kunsthalle eichbaum), kunstwoche jesteburg (kunsthaus jesteburg), tufa mailart (tufa trier) and the (C)OLD DEAR INJURED PERSON group show (plattform 3/3, friedrichshafen).
additionally, AESTATEvisual managed to come up with AESTATEvisual2.0, an upgraded show of the abstract which gaind great feedback.

not to forget, piayda also recieved the partizipia art award for his photographic work.

next to this, AESTATE released the remix album PATCH as free download via zany music. it worked perfectly as a crosspromotional piece and brought back SUPERFLAT into focus.
next to this the group released two "twin" EPs on two different labels. the featured tracks were labeled as "non-fitting to albums" and were split up into two ep´s to be released seperately to be widerly spread:
in january digital kunstrasen released "dominion empire" followowed by "reken harvest" in july on crazy language. both gained great feedback.
additionally, AESTATE contributed a new exclusive track to the 5th anniversary sampler of digital kunstrasen and a remix for a release by the austrian rock band HOME. at least the group played two very different audiovisual gigs at kunsthaus essen and made a big impression.

present:
there are no definite things to discover, sven piayda is recently working on new works and new exhibitions.
AESTATE are believed to have finisched their 3rd full album, further releases are in the making.

future:
there will be new exhibitions in 2011, some things are already scheduled, otthers are in the making. the first show will be a privat one: the hammes collection will show their aquisitions for private viewing featuring re-discovered older works from sven piayda.
there ar enew photographs and videos to be released soon.

AESTATE will release a new album in spring, zany music is working on the release and will release details as well as promotional material vera soon. additionally, digital kunstrasen and AESTATE are planing to do another release together, probably a long EP. crazy language has also confirmed to continue collaboration.
AESTATE are scheduled to play live in march again, more to be announced.

today the platftorm 3/3 gallery in friedrichshafen opens the (C)OLD DEAR INJURED PERSON / (K)ALT(ER) LIEBE(R) VERLETZT(ER) MENSCH exhibition. the exhibition deals with the issue of getting older and dealing with it. it features three not before shown works by sven piayda, pills self-portraits (levothyroxin natrium, rosuvastatin and nebivolol), a series of three photographs showing pill packages and the process of taking them in a very abstract, cold but finally touching way. the exhibition was curated by matthias brugger for the spaltenstein project.

the project is also referred as mail-art project which is technically not correct, as exhibited artworks are not shipped openly by the postal service, but had mostly been shipped in covers and envelopes to get into the collection. a documenting catalogue is expected.

the bochum based netlabel digital kunstrasen has released the first ep by rock band HOME (see cover on the left) from austria. the release features next to another remix an exclusive remix by AESTATE.
new music on zany music and digital kunstrasen is expected for 2011. the group has announced to work on a post rock ep to be put out on digital kunstrasen in 2011.

next to the remix for HOME, AESTATE have also released their EP DOMINION EMPIRE on digital kunstrasen as well as a new track called TYNC SHAFT for the 5th anniversary sampler of the label.

as we have annouced in our last news post, sven piayda has recieved the partizipia art awrward. the documenting and escorting exhibition at d-52 has opened last friday with a great vernissage.
as we got to know on friday, next to piayda, AESTATEvisual and solo artist michaela best is also nominated for the partizipia award and eichbaum photographer guntram walter has contributed a work for the ego archive.

unfortunately, the bad weather conditions and low temperatures made it impossible for some participants to join the opening or to stay for long.

it is our big pleasure to announce these happy news: sven piayda receives the partizipia art award given by the d-52 gallery. the prize is based on and documented by portraits showing the artists and their work.
as you see above "taking pictures" (2005) was one of the first digital photographs and stands for piayda´s approach to digitally processed tableaus as he is even producing them today. the work above is a small version of the tableau.

the exhibition documenting the awards will be opened next friday, december 3, 7 pm.
the exhibition will be running until december 19, 3 pm.

these are good news for everyone who was asking how it could go on after the fantastic "superflat" album and the outstanding gigs at kunsthaus essen. AESTATE are working in their third album since 2008, now the group has confirmed to finish the final steps in production soon. zany music has scheduled to release the album in spring as physical version (compact disc) and digital (mp3 download via zany load and auxiro).

next to new music output, the group wants to play audiovisual gigs in 2011, watch out, the group will come up with new transformations.


although there had been different releases after 2008´s "superflat", the group did not put out new material. "performance" (2009) was a live documentary, "patch" was a remix collection mainly made by other artists and twin ep collection "dominion empire" (digital kunstrasen, 2010) and "reken harvest" (crazy language, 2010) were made of mainly older tracks track which were not fitting to any albums. so the sound of new album is heavily awaited.

2010 will also deliver some music: AESTATE´s audiovisual performance at kunsthaus essen in summer was recorded and will be available as stream and download for free via crazy language. next to that, AESTATE have be working on a remix for the debut release by label mates from digital kunstrasen. details to be announced.

tonight the tufa trier celebrates it´s 25th anniversary with a big exhibition of mail art objects. the exhibition features over 1000 unique works from all over the world. sven piayda is participating with a small version of "vessel (cloth)".

the KalkKunst is taking place for the 6th time in cologne featuring over 60 contemporary artists showing their works at different places and location in cologne. this fair/exhibition is usually escorted by the media and is believed to be one of cologne´s three biggest art fairs.

the collective is recently very busy with further solo projects (AESTATE have confirmed to finish the third album, michaela best works on fashion related output) so there had been no events connected to the exhibition.

after bringing the opernbauhütte at the eichbaum station in mülheim/ruhr, germany back to live after the opera production was finished, there had been many ideas in the orbit. many projects like performing with AESTATE, turning the building into a big video installation or into a gallery for contemorary but clicheless views on the region faild due schedule dificulties.
the opernbauhütte was originally there to bring culture to a place of fear and violence, over the last month the whole project turned into a more socially motivated enterprise.


the only collaboration with sven piayda was the documentation exhibition at the temporäre kunsthalle eichbaum as installed for the A40 still live this summer.


next weekend the eichbaum countdown team comes up with their most encouraged project: the EICHBAUMBOXER:
the archetecture of the subway station implies to be a stage for boxing, the re-using of the location as place for boxing, competition and battle seems to be just logical. we expect two great days of boxing action among a big rap show.

the AESTATEvisual team among michaela best and sven piayda have confirmed to support the event.

last saturday the stoffwechsel and the AESTATEvisual collective have opened the updated exhibition of the updated "retrospective of the abstract" as it was called the year before. the group was represented by embroidery artist michaela best and cgi print and video artist sven piayda during the opening. the respond was bigger than expected, while the party was quite calm. at least the soffwechsel staff appreciates the extremely dynamic exhibition of the different works. the group finished the opening ceremonies and started an afterparty afterwards at another location. above you see a snapshot from the exhibition, the big screen is surrounded by the prints and escorted by embroidery below.


another picture from the show: michaela best transformed the digital vectors into yarn: the exhibition features six embroidery works. small as postcards the embroidery works appear even more complex than the large cgi prints.


the day before: the group put up the right order and did last steps in planning, the hanging concept was quite "avant-garde" this time.

further AEv2 features or events are not scheduled recently. if there is an "artist meet and greet" we will tell you on time.

plus: the kunstwoche jesteburg ended yesterday, the brookhoff gbr was not able to deliver installations views, answer phone calls or email requests. we are sorry but there is no further documentation on this exhibition.

the online work BIG POLLUTION had been taken of the web again, the ehibition period is over. the online screening of a work was an experimental approach, similar experiments and further BP screenings are not scheduled.
now that the screening is over, it seems that the oil pipeline in the gulf of mexico is under control. these are good news escorting the closing.

this september will be full of exhibitions featuring sven piayda´s work:

the kunsthaus jesteburg will show an exhibition entitled ENERGIE featuring different positions of contemporary artists concerning this topic.
sven piayda´s windmill water pump (see still above) will be shown in the ehibition of the IX. kunstwoche jesteburg, running from september 4-12, opened on septeber 3.

next to this exhibition we expect the return of AESTATEvisual, also in september, more soon.

additionally, there will be an exhibition to be opened on september 11 in mülheim/ruhr, but piayda´s participation is not confirmed so far.. to be announced here!

"making of" (update)

we have found this funny little picture in one of the folders. it was taken in summer 2009, you can see sven piayda fighting with a tripod to film the windmill in duisburg, germany. the footage was used for the well known video work. see picture below for an installation view at kunsthaus essen as warm up for the AESTATE performances:

inspired by the horrible oil pullution disaster in the gulf of mexico and the work on roses (after richter), sven piayda has created a new video work entitled big pollution to be exhibited online only.
it is available now via this site for one week only. have a look at the information site for research and background knowledge.

the work will be exhibited from friday to friday, july 30 to august 6 via svenpiayda.com.

plus: recently sven piayda is still working on a CCTV video piece in collaboration with !Mediengruppe Bitnik and michaela best. the work will be screened in the future, probably in a 2010 video retrospective, scheduled for next year...
