  2004 is over. a long and tricky year is done. if we look back 2004 was - in spite of so many things that made everything more difficult - the year with the most sven related releases so far. the change of the year seems to be always a good moment to look back but also to look out:
p a s t :
sven : trinity. sven releases his third solo album. it is very heavy and very emotive. fans and critics even say it is his best work so far, well never before he sounded so vivid and powerful.
dissident(en) club : gift. sven checked into a band again, but this time it was different. dc linked wave, idm, rock, pop and avant-garde. the result was the debut album gift, a masterpiece that you can only love or hate. the album was crowned by a support gig for einstürzende neubauten.
record of tides : timber. jay and sven were searching for new directions. the debut timber is a strange little piece of music, fragile electronica without any use of foreign samples.
p r e s e n t :
so what is happening at the moment? sven said he is recently not working on a new album, he wants to slow down a little. but: he spent the last days of this year with the dissident(en) club in studio to record the gift follow up. he also admitted that he loved to work with sellafield, but all things which were in need to be done are done so, we have to wait. it is as simple as that.
f u t u r e :
on january 3rd zany music will release sellafieldīs permutations. according to sven the best electronica work so far. (indeed, this album is a masterpiece). next to it there is also the ep chylli lax, a release only for people who want to get in touch with sellafield or even have every other zm release!!!
the dissident(en) club is recording and so we may expect the new album in 2005 - next to some gigs.
so what about sven??? no comments so far but sven told before that he could think of starting to record the fourth sven album in autumn 2005. lets see.
there is so much coming up. do not miss it. great expectations for 2005.

2004-12-21 sellafield "permutations" and "chylli lax"
  we are very happy to tell you that sellafield (the electronica project that developed based on record of tides) will release its debut album "permutations" on 2005-01-03. the album contains 10 great idm electronica tracks and has an overall length of 78.30 min. next to it you will find also the tiny queer ep "chylli lax". more info on the official sellafield site and in the releases section. you can even download "sun worshipping" as mp3 or listen to it on the svennet radio. great expectations for 2005, eh???

2004-12-11 dimebag darrell 1966-2004
  damageplan guitarist dimebag darrell abbot was shot down wednesday night in ohio after playing the opening song with his band. a mad "fan" jumped on stage, killed dime and fired into the audience. next to the musician tour crew member jeff thompson was killed, too. according to rumours the attacker blamed darrel to be responsible for the split of pantera. a short statement by sven:
it is really hard to comment this. i sat in front of the tv and by switching over the channels darrellīs name appeared on screen. "news on damageplan, finally" i thought, a few seconds later i realised what happened. dimebag darrel was a great guitarist, although he played very heavily you could hear that he was in love with every sound he produced. even when i think it is a little strange to so sing a paean of praise on someone who just passed away i have to tell honestly that dime made a big impression and coined my own guitar work. listen to "the great southern trendkill" and you might know what i mean. iīm sorry for every person who was harmed in any case that night. /// on the other hand i must admit that iīm very angry. isn't it a strange world in which you'll be killed by a fan (if you want to call him so)??? i can't put my feelings in words. we should think about our perception of others, idols, friends and colleges. we should never loose our respect, distance and appreciation. we must spend the time we have together as long as we share the same ideas and split up peacefully in biggest respect when it's over. we create the society we want to live in anyway - so give it a try!

2004-11-20 dissident(en) club: present and future plans
  above you see the latest picture from herpes, sven and holy (left to right, image by phoenix), the guys from dissident(en) club. allthough sven decided to leave the band officially in may, the guys still played gigs together and recorded in studio together. last week herpes and sven did a little impromptu session. sven reported: it was already quite late, about midnight. we wanted to record something, but i had no guitar or anything i could play properly. after trying a lot with keyboards and midi (which we couldn't use at all) i got some vine glasses with water in it. we simply recorded every sound that i could produce with glasses and the sticks and edited it digitally. the result was quite convincing." anyway, sven also mentioned to come up with more input for the dissident(en) club again. these seem to be good news. holy also said there is a gig scheduled for march 2005 in the stadttheater gelsenkirchen, but space and time are still in need to be confirmed. herpes is recently very busy with many different projects he is working on. (have a look on his site) it seems like the dc working process is a little bit slow now, but not less effective. anyway, good to know they still put their heads together for more genius strikes!!! J
by the way, svenīs other new project will be introduced here on svennet. the microsite can be expected around christmas, the album at the beginning of 2005.

2004-11-12 new project announcement / title remains a secret (so far)
  first of all: alec smith seems to be happy with the recording results from last month, maybe we can expect his debut album within the next month - you never know, weīll see. record of tides on the other hand will pause for a while, the next sven album is still (according to sven ) far away, so what is happening now?
sven said that he is actually working on a new project, but he didnīt tell the name so far. anyway, it will be about music primarily but also on visuals like video and graphics and essays. sven will lead this open collective which will include contributions by phoenix, jay and hh neumann. (this is what it looks like so far).
i had the chance to visit sven in studio and had the chance to listen to the new sounds from the upcoming release and, wow, this is far more out than anything he did before, words cannot describe this stuff! cute melodies mixed up with strange beat attacks, and everything is changing all the time. there is no release date so far but this record it too outstanding to keep it in the archive. be exited, folks!

2004-10-26 alec smith recording session
  as in 2002 alec smith returned to moppelstudioz to record new songs. so far, there is not much to say about this session - the guys didn't tell very much. but anyway, we have some facts here. alec and sven recorded three new songs, two with english lyrics one with german lyrics. alec stick to his expressive singer/songwriter style while sven tried to arrange more sounds around it. later sven reported with a smile: "alec wanted to play most instruments on his own, so there was not very much left to do for me. but i was able to bring in some electronica and alec said it is ok. i think alec is quite happy with the result although he is extremely critical. i guess these songs are the most bombastic ones we ever did together." sounds like a productive day?! the link to the alec smith`s first ep can be found here.

2004-10-15 record of tides working on new visual concept and new album
  record of tides (jay and sven) just released their debut album timber in august. now, just two months later they are working on the follow up record and on new visual concepts. the site will be launched 2004-10-18 and combines principles of math and nature (allegoric), it also functions as a audio-visual jukebox and an "emotional trigger interface". the next album will not be released before summer 2005. but anyway. according to sven, record of tidesī second album will be more extreme: more cute melodies and even harder rhythm strikes. it seems that the guys have found the direction. don't miss this experience.

2004-10-01 sven featured on newcomer festival cards and posters
  if you hang around in gelsenkirchen these days you may have noticed posters and cards featuring an image sven in stage. these papers are from the bdkj (bund der deutschen katholischen jugend in gelsenkichen) who are looking for new bands for a music festival on 2004-12-04. although sven is pictured on the adverts he will not be live on stage there. the image is taken from the set of pictures photographed during the dissident(en) club gig supporting einstürzende neubauten in march 2004. the original photo can be found here

2004-09-24 portrait 5th anniversary / portfolio release tomorrow
 

yes, another year is over now! portrait, svenīs outstanding debut album from 1999 is five years old now, but it still sounds fresh! many releases and projects followed, first of all the solo albums diptych and trinity. to bring back some structure and orientation, zany music releases portfolio on 2004-09-25 - exactly five years after svenīs first release. sven has a message for you:

"five years seem to be a long time, but if i look back, they seemed to race by in a second. now there is portfolio, a little retrospective, even when i do not like to look back. portfolio features one representative song from every album, "drop the pilot" from trinity, "mine" from diptych and "beam" from portrait. additionally to these hits "she's fragile" is put on it in a new 2004 mix. that song was originally recorded and released in 2000 as a single, but it is no more available for years, the remixes and the original mix are quite bad. the new mix sounds great, even when it keeps the spirit of the original song. i guess i am really happy with this version - and you can receive it. at least (track 5) "maisonette sunset symphony" is a kind of a medley of two already known songs in short versions. we wanted to have something more avant gardeistic next to the hit singles on the ep. it is a short summary of the last five years. i hope you like it, this ep is the perfect compilation to start. interested? this is planned to be a little give a way...enjoy!"

2004-09-13 dissiden(en) club & sven live @ green party aftermath
  wow! that has been a hot gig. on saturday the dissident(en) club did a small club gig suppurting bernd matzkowski from the green party who is candidate for major in gelsenkirchen. sven joined the band on guitar and it seemed like nothing had changed. although he announced to perform on an acoustic guitar sven appeared on stage with his signature electric to contribute heavy riffs and cutting solos.
the performance was a small club gig, so there was enough space to talk to the audience after playing. the guys did a great job, so the was enough space to encore.

although it was raining outside, the musix club became a real melting pot. "it was so damn hot on stage, i could see the sweat dropping from my face down to the floor. when i returned home later that night i still was wet. i must have lost some litres!!!" unfortunately the gig was not recorded but former pav2 artist phoenix photographed nearly every minute of the dissident(en) club action. more to come.

you might remember svenīs drop out of dissident(en) club. anyway the guys will be live on stage on saturday 2004-09-11. the gig will be only a small club gig, sven said he is going to play only some acoustic guitar, so you may have the chance to listen to the well known dc songs in a new sound. additionally there are some rumours that they will perform a new song, too. the concert is free and may be the last chance to see dc with this line up on stage. more info (time and location) click here.

zany music launches the current web catalogue - finally! started in 1999 zany music became more and more independent - in production and stylistic issues. everything started in 1999 with svenīs debut album portrait - in collaboration with roberg-records. today zany music is the home base for very different kinds of music: singer songwriter pop, avantgarde electronica and, of course, designer rock. and still more to come.

2004-06-26 record of tides live mp3 / debut album coming up
  after the split of jayīs and svenīs band apologies in 2001 the guys founded a new project called record of tides. even when the whole thing was started in 2003 the debut album "seven poems" will be out someday in august. record of tides differs a lot from everything they have done before, there is no rock or pop or metal or something. the duo focuses on minimal ambient. most of the tracks take much time to develop, so the debut will be running about 73 minutes with 21 tracks.

2004-05-14 sven leaves dissident(en) club
  sad but true: sven leaves dissident(en) club. anyway, the special edition version from the debut album gift will be available 2004-05-31. we do not want any rumours or any kind of thinking the wrong direction, so here is a short statement by sven:

"if you become a part of something, you might sometimes wonder when it will end. i thought of many reasons why i would leave the dissident(en) club, maybe because of personal differences or maybe because i could not stand our music anymore. but this case is different: i enjoyed working with these guys and iīm still very happy with the result, the debut album and our gigs. anyway, the time has come for me to drop. i have realised that it does not make sense to stay in this group if i cannot offer 100 percent. i am involved in so many things which do not allow to spend my power on making this band bigger and bigger. i am sorry for everyone i have to disappoint, but everyone knew that it was difficult for me to find the right time and the right mood to contribute good stuff. thatīs it. i do not know what is going to happen next, i have no idea, i can still imagine to play some guitars on the next album or care about the artwork or contribute photos or something, but it would not be fair for everyone to pretend to be still an innovative member of this group. weīll see, maybe iīll return one day, at the right time and the right circumstances. best wishes for herpes and holy, iīm looking for you further output! my own music activities will go on of course, but reduced as well. iīm looking forward for the record of tides debut and the next sven album (but this is really far away, maybe 2006 or something). hope to see you soon..."

2004-03-28 dissident(en) club neubauten support gig aftermath
  the dissident(en) club supported einstürzende neubauten yesterday 2004-03-27, 20.00h in bielefeld, ringlokschuppen. one thing first: they did a great job and it was a big sound. we hope to present more images and sounds from this outstanding gig soon, but it may take some time. and a short message by sven:
"i did not comment the fact of our gig of this dimension, because i always thought it could be bad and i might look like a fool by inviting you to come. now i know it was great. i hope to hear the live recordings soon and give you any stuff i can find. anyway, i would like to thank some persons: first of all anna and phoenix for your support, you did a great job, then to all roadies for being careful with my stuff. at least a short hello to alec and dirk again, i hope you liked it, unfortunately i missed you after the gig...hope to hear from you soon. thanks to everyone involved and for supporting us, even when we were the supporters!!!"

2004-01-21 heavy recording iii: sven recorded five new songs / trinity done
  and again, a new message from studio. this seems to be really utopic! yesterday sven recorded five(!) new songs and finished the album. the opener is called "inside you" and is a real heavy track with a long guitar solo and striking electronics. the last song will be "youīll go through", a very calm track which is based on the record of tides track with the same name. then the acoustic and country-like "easylife" which is full of sampled acoustic guitars. the most shocking track may be "donīt dare to touch my stuff" which needs no guitars at all, but distortion keyboards and an autechre-esque end. and, well there is another song, but no information at this point.
it is really unbelievable how fast everything works, or where it may lead to. anyway, "trinity" is going to be the heaviest sven album so far.

whatīs next: sven needs some time for post-production, mixing and mastering. if there are any new sounds - youīll find them here!!!

2004-01-17 heavy recording ii: sven recorded four new songs
 

and again, a new message from studio. today sven recorded a country-like song today, which fades into heavy rock in the end: "a better life comes tomorrow"
sven has also recorded two songs on thursday: "closer" is a very dark and dirty track with alice-in-chains-like harmonies. "drop the pilot" seems to be the best song so far - according to sven. it is very heavy, tricky and pure rock. the last one is "closer to you", a song with a strange tact which changes from electronic to classic rock with slide guitars.
it is really unbelievable how fast everything works, or where it may lead to. anyway, "trinity" is going to be the heaviest sven album so far.
sven said he is very happy with his tiny studio, and that technical routine makes it easier to work fast end effective. whatever this may mean...

after all this programming and stuff, sven was in studio today to record two songs. the first one is called "try try try" and the other one is "shining star". sven himself was wondering how fast everything happened. alina mori, on the other hand, said she was allowed to listen to short samples of both songs. she said the rough mixes are hard to take, but the songs and arrangemends reminded her of nuno bettencourtīs music...
well, it seems like "trinity" is really going to become a rock album...
